Step by step guide for this deal
1) Follow the get deal button, purchase the £49.99 + £12*24 tariff.
2) Receive your phone and sim card.
3) Put the sim card into your phone and go onto myO2 (app or website) and from there request the unlock code.
4) Call 202 from the same sim card as it will make things much easier, go straight to the I want to leave o2 department or something like that (I think it's thinking of leaving us? Press something) as that will connect you with the right people much quicker.
5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full and cancel the airtime. They will ask you why, tell them you don't think the airtime is a good value for money, but you want to keep the phone because you think it's an outstanding value for money. They will ask you for card details, you tell those details and that's it, they cancel it for you in about an hour.
6) You own the phone from that point, assumed that you have done this straightaway, there won't be any charges, otherwise you will have to pay as much airtime as you have used.
7) Unlock code will come through in about 2 to 48 hours
Distance selling rules allow you to cancel within 14 days of contract regardless of any o2 contact terms. Consumer contacts (information cancellation and additional charges) regulations 2013 s30 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/3134/regulation/30/made o2 is only allowed to charge for services used not the full month if cancelling within 14 days for a service. The only reason you pay anything at all is that the regulations allow a service to be provided immediately if express permission is given by the consumer which o2 have likely cover in there terms and conditions. So in this case each day you fail to cancel the contract their would be a proportional charge of £1 each day. My advice is get the phone unlocked by requesting the unlock code and make sure the instant you do, cancel via phone/ email. At most you will pay £5 extra for the four days over Christmas. Also might be worth sending cancellation in writing recorded delivery quote your order and your rights under contract implied by the regs above after cancelling over the phone. If any of you guys want the template of my legal letter message me and I will forward when it's done. You could cancel debit credit/ cards and direct debits if paronoid o2 will try taking money after cancellation and payment for the handset. Please like this post so it gets to the top for others to see.

A family friend recently bought a car on PCP, it came with £2500 cashback on delivery of the vehicle. They then cancelled the PCP contract and paid off in full within 14 days (some legal right to cancel), they had to pay interest up until the point they cancelled but kept the £2500 cashback.
Applied for a credit card last week and got refused as credit record showed that they took out PCP finance and to date have not made a monthly payment (because they paid off in full), so unless the finance company correctly record you paying off the phone it will show on your record and affect any future finance you apply for until its cleared correctly from your file. Not saying 02 are bad at this but it can happen especially if you apply for further credit within a short period after cancelling this contract.
