hmmm regardless of how good this deal/laptop is - I will not ever buy ANYTHING ever from AO.com - as long as they have that quite frankly disgusting return/refund "policy"! I am surprised it's even legal!

Think about it logically - how are you ever going to know if any product they have sold you is 100% functional/satisfactory UNTIL YOU'VE USED IT? I am getting more and more amazed at this "age of stupid" comments on this website lately... I'm not contesting the laptop/pc expertise, rather BASIC consumer rights!

As for those of you that believe their return/refund policy is fair :/ you probably also think that ebay sellers who put "once item is in the post it's not my responsibility" is fair too?

to be fair I said myself I was stuck between the two and couldn't decide, the gold is off putting to me and I wouldn't get the 10% new customer discount so would cost £100 more which meant for me I prefer the reduced weight and size over the added storage. but the swift is still a great deal

Swift 3 is a better deal in my opinion for £35 extra. i5, 256GB SSD and Fingerprint Scanner.

My son wanted a ultrabook for university, I looked at the 510 but thought it was a bit bulky compared to say a Zenbook. But in the end I decided to order the 510 as with the 11% quidco (will be about £310) it was a bit of a no brainer and would do the job reasonably well.

However this deal popped up, so I've ended up with both. The S13 compares well with the Zenbook (size / weight) but is £££'s cheaper, my younger son will have the 510 (money from xmas and savings) as he has no need for the portability and he was using one of my old ageing laptops (with a bloody noisy fan!!) so it made sense to keep the 510.

The Swift 3 looks good but is larger, heavier and has less battery life than the S13 which kind of defeats the object for me.

The S13 hasn't arrived yet but the 510 has, really impressed so far!

Yeah, the i5 6200u and i3 6100u are very similar chips. In the real world, probably no more than 10-15% performance difference between them.

I saw that but you have to get the gold one and I already have a very account so won't get the 10% discount.
I wouldn't say it's a newer model as it only came out 2 months later it's a different laptop it's heavier thicker and less battery life :-/

Acer Swift 3 from Very for £495 with 10%, extra 40% gets you aluminium body, extra SSD, I5 & newer model!!

Even that one only has a core i5 6200u which is identical to the core i3 6100u but has turbo from 2.3-2.6ghz the benchmark score for the core i3 is 3860 and the core i5 6200u is 3940

The closest thing is probably the HP Pavillion but that's noticeably heavier at 1.6kg, the screen is a bit dim, and battery life is relatively poor at ~ 6 hours.

For an ultraportable class of laptop, I'd still be going with the Acer over the HP (having owned laptops from both manufacturers).

Find me an ultrabook, not a normal laptop but something thinner and lighter than a macbook air that has a full hd ips display over 11 hours battery life and comes with a good i5 processor.
The £1300 surface book comes with a Core i5 6300u which is benchmarked to be a huge 20% faster than this laptop..........

One thing to note, the lid is referred to as plastic but it's actually metal with the rubber plastic on top of it, not a huge difference but may make it a little more sturdy day to day

I used to have an Acer Timeline laptop back in the day, and this reminds me of that. That was pretty good - thin and light before the days of 'ultrabooks' and it had exceptional battery life. As for the S13, 1.3kg and 1.5cm thick, it's a nice weight and size for portability as well as maintaining usability. 1080p matte IPS screen, long battery life are good and the M.2 SSD is a bonus as well in terms of upgradeability.

Maybe it's just me but when I upgraded my laptop 6 weeks ago I was faced with so many great options that I just couldn't make a final decision without at least trying before buying.

How much slower will this be compared to a normal i3/i5?

Try the Asus Zenbook UX305CA. Its always in the top 10 of ultra portables and can be had around for similar money.
