Was looking at the recent Lenovo Yoga deal on here for £350, amazing price but the 4Gb ram and lack of backlit keyboard killed it for me.

Where? Unless you mean 30% more is 'similar'.

I think policy is entirely fair as it's impossible for them to re-sell a 'used' product for the original price.

Try the Asus Zenbook UX305CA. Its always in the top 10 of ultra portables and can be had around for similar money.

good find op. however why are they only using the "U" series processors
jayd95 to shonkygeeza
31 Dec 161#9
Most thin and light laptops use the U processors because they use a lot less power even the £1500 surface book uses a U processor.
It's not a bad thing just not as powerful but in return gives great battery life

I think you'd struggle to find anything more than a intel dual core at this price

Ultra Low Voltage. Good for battery life. For this class of laptop, battery life is more important than having a high powered CPU/GPU as it's not intended as a gaming computer. Don't forget that battery life for all laptops degrade over time. The battery life might provide 10 hours charge at the start of it's life but after 2-3 years of daily use, you might only be seeing 6-7 hours due to battery wear. That would be significantly worse if you had say a 47W TDP CPU in this.

How much slower will this be compared to a normal i3/i5?

The only thing I did notice about AO was their return/refund policy............
" If you've used the product
We're happy for you to unpack the item and inspect it properly, however, if you've used or installed it, we will only make a partial refund to cover the loss in value of the product. Please note, this could be up to 50% of the price of the item."
Maybe it's just me but when I upgraded my laptop 6 weeks ago I was faced with so many great options that I just couldn't make a final decision without at least trying before buying.

I agree, the fact that they even offer a partial refund is more than most places
I used to have an Acer Timeline laptop back in the day, and this reminds me of that. That was pretty good - thin and light before the days of 'ultrabooks' and it had exceptional battery life. As for the S13, 1.3kg and 1.5cm thick, it's a nice weight and size for portability as well as maintaining usability. 1080p matte IPS screen, long battery life are good and the M.2 SSD is a bonus as well in terms of upgradeability.
One thing to note, the lid is referred to as plastic but it's actually metal with the rubber plastic on top of it, not a huge difference but may make it a little more sturdy day to day
It depends what you want, if you're after a touchscreen buy the lenovo yoga 510 thats on here already for £349 from pc world.
The laptop you have linked too is an old model with a very slow CPU, its also refurbished which means you dont know what condition the laptop will be in when it arrives.
Find me an ultrabook, not a normal laptop but something thinner and lighter than a macbook air that has a full hd ips display over 11 hours battery life and comes with a good i5 processor.
The £1300 surface book comes with a Core i5 6300u which is benchmarked to be a huge 20% faster than this laptop..........
Picard123
31 Dec 161#22
The closest thing is probably the HP Pavillion but that's noticeably heavier at 1.6kg, the screen is a bit dim, and battery life is relatively poor at ~ 6 hours.
For an ultraportable class of laptop, I'd still be going with the Acer over the HP (having owned laptops from both manufacturers).
jayd95
31 Dec 16#23
Even that one only has a core i5 6200u which is identical to the core i3 6100u but has turbo from 2.3-2.6ghz the benchmark score for the core i3 is 3860 and the core i5 6200u is 3940

I saw that but you have to get the gold one and I already have a very account so won't get the 10% discount.
I wouldn't say it's a newer model as it only came out 2 months later it's a different laptop it's heavier thicker and less battery life :-/

Yeah, the i5 6200u and i3 6100u are very similar chips. In the real world, probably no more than 10-15% performance difference between them.
hmmm regardless of how good this deal/laptop is - I will not ever buy ANYTHING ever from AO.com - as long as they have that quite frankly disgusting return/refund "policy"! I am surprised it's even legal!
Think about it logically - how are you ever going to know if any product they have sold you is 100% functional/satisfactory UNTIL YOU'VE USED IT? I am getting more and more amazed at this "age of stupid" comments on this website lately... I'm not contesting the laptop/pc expertise, rather BASIC consumer rights!
As for those of you that believe their return/refund policy is fair :/ you probably also think that ebay sellers who put "once item is in the post it's not my responsibility" is fair too?
It's AO.gone as far as I'm concerned!
Happy New Year

I would sort of understand the partial refund if the item is sent back because of a simple change of mind. If it has a fault, used or not it needs to be fully refunded.
I am not sure their policy does not go against consumer rights. I thought if you buy online then you can inspect, use the product and reject it within a reasonable period.
Amazon gives you 30 days and I know from personal experience they will fully refund opened items that have been used even in case of a change of mind.
Had the return cost waived in this particular case (normally it is free to return) by going to live chat for the return label.

Been hovering my finger over the button on the Yoga at £349, this deal looked interesting, but I also saw the Acer Swift3 --
here
Acer Swift at Very - was£599, reduced to £549, comes down to £499 with the 10% new customer discount. (256gb SSD & i5, full HD)

like i say its swings and roundabouts, the core i3 6100u and i5 6200u benchmark almost the same as its the same cpu same clock speed just the i5 has turbo. The only benefit you are getting is the 256gb ssd for £50 more but the battery life is better on the aspire s13 and its also thinner, lighter and from the reviews it has a better display thats the reason i went for the aspire but i was torn between the two, i didnt fancy the gold either

My son wanted a ultrabook for university, I looked at the 510 but thought it was a bit bulky compared to say a Zenbook. But in the end I decided to order the 510 as with the 11% quidco (will be about £310) it was a bit of a no brainer and would do the job reasonably well.
However this deal popped up, so I've ended up with both. The S13 compares well with the Zenbook (size / weight) but is £££'s cheaper, my younger son will have the 510 (money from xmas and savings) as he has no need for the portability and he was using one of my old ageing laptops (with a bloody noisy fan!!) so it made sense to keep the 510.
The Swift 3 looks good but is larger, heavier and has less battery life than the S13 which kind of defeats the object for me.
The S13 hasn't arrived yet but the 510 has, really impressed so far!

But one member is convinced that it's not due to extra 1-2 hours battery and slim factor. So what is the objective truth herein?

to be fair I said myself I was stuck between the two and couldn't decide, the gold is off putting to me and I wouldn't get the 10% new customer discount so would cost £100 more which meant for me I prefer the reduced weight and size over the added storage. but the swift is still a great deal
