When I scroll through the deals on here often I just look at the pictures. Sometimes, when I can't work work out what it is from the thumbnail, I enlarge it and when that fails I give in and read the title. On this occasion I read the title, description and then had to follow the link to the website. Done a bit of learning on this Sunday evening!

I have submitted the price to Amazon, hopefully they will match it in a couple of days.

How so? You choose the temperature and time. Rare or well done and anything inbetween. You either don't understand or are doing very wrong

Good deal, but it's just another gadget to clutter up cupboards!

It's a lot smaller than my current sous vide machine.

Brilliant if you want your food to taste uncooked.

If you've ever ordered steak, fish or chicken breast in a decent restaurant they probably used a sous vide machine.

I paid £110 6 months ago. Fantastic purchase! Top Restaurant standard meat, fish or veg every time. You're always going to get the haters saying it's boil in the bag. They obviously have no idea of the concept and as you say, top chefs/restaurants use them regularly.

I paid 125 each with their kickstarter programme. The immersion versions are much better than the tank types as they can take up a lot space. Mine work great so I can highly recommend.

If you eat a steak in a nice restaurant there is a good chance it's cooked in a Sous vide (you can often tell as the steak will look less cooked but will taste as you ordered)....
Hot from me.

And by "decent" you mean employing shefs who can't can cook a steak without this gizmo and a plastic bag.

I might not have a degree in physics, but how exactly does this contraption boil water at 130'c?

Fahrenheit you donkey! It warms, not boils.

If it makes people cook their food in a plastic bag, I don't think I'm missing much.

Actually it allows them to be cooked before its even ordered as they can stay cooking for far longer without being overdone. If medium rare steak is most popular you prepare and cook them in advance and serve when required without worrying about overcooking it.

Genuine question: could you get a similar result from a slow cooker full of water? monitored of course.

You could, it would be a pain it the ass keeping getting the correct temperature and keeping it though

If you're technically minded, you can make one with a raspberry pi and a biscuit tin...!

Not with this kit. Is there a hybrid pressure cooker?
