Looked a great deal... however on checking the spec it only uses proprietary filament by XYZ and the machine CHECKS. Price per kg of this is a lot more. Sure someone will tinker a workaround but on that point I'm out.
More for those who want a finished polished easy use product than a tinkerer.
Heat for the deal if it is your thing tho :-)

You can readily flash Repetier on the firmware here:
Currently looking at a USB Thumb drive & SD Card holder on my Desk that was printed out on one of these. It's a nice capable printer, the only downside is they RFID the Filament reels so you have to buy their own stuff. My girlfriend has one, she'd had no real issues with hers but I would advise staying away from the Black filament as she had nothing but jams and blockages with it. Many months and prints later you still see the occasional wisp of black on lighter colour prints.

Do you have to finish off (sand down) the things you 3d print?

I'm tempted... then I can make my own worthless crap rather than buying it
Nope - the finish is perfectly fine. You may have to wash prints from time to time if you use the pritt stick trick to stop prints moving around on the bed - basically washing off glue residue from the underside of the print.

Here's a few examples, the pink battery holders look a lot more rough and ready in the pictures than they actually are in person.

Nice, pleasantly surprised at how nice the finish is. How long did it take to print those?

This looks good to me, but baffles me before I even start
Without looking, does it come with some sort of software to enable you to make stuff?
And is there anything else out there that represents better value for money?
Probably the wrong place to ask but was here reading this so it seemed relevant  (to me at least)
Opening post
Maplins are selling it at £299.99 so seems like a good deal.
