My only warning regarding this model and brand, is that they have DRM baked in. If you buy their brand of printer, only their spools of filament will fit, and the machine won't accept anything that doesn't have their NFC chips in it. Bought 2kg of PLA from another brand for £30, one 0.5Kg reel of filament from them was the same price. Very good if you're just looking to get into the hobby, it works almost right out the box with minimum setup. And even windows recognises it and will build to with it's own software (3d builder) with little to no knowledge of how they work you'll be downloading and printing STL's no bother.
If you're more of someone who wants to tinker and customising things, this probably isn't for you.

How does this one compare? Looks to be smaller in size and has wifi but no auto calibration
If that was directed at my post above, please feel free to find me an identical *Pink* battery holder for 99p

Only good for making tiny things. Or things that will all need sticking together. Look at the one defgimp posted. costs less and has a 15x15x15 build volume. much better offer than this one.
Scrub that. They keep changing between CM and inches in the documentation. both the same build volume. Wonder if this other one also needs the stupid proprietary fibre reels.

Still trying to get my head around whether I actually need one of these :smiley: but while trawling the interweb to see what's out there (and there seems an awful lot these days!) came across this, again from ebuyer;
As a first look/try at 3d printing, was this one any good or is the other far superior for the few extra quid like?
Haven't tried it yet but there also seems to be a bit of quidco/TCB available at ebuyer too?

I want to clone small long since obsolete plastic 1960s parts. How would I get a 3D scan done? Would it need any know how to clean the scan up? I basically want to use it like a photocopier.

Digital callipers for every measurement and autodesk fusion 360 to design it I have designed a number of practical things with it, below is a picture of the aquarium weir I printed (not finished the boxing in but the grill works perfectly and looks great) cost 6% of buying it.

Can I print some friends with it?

Looked a great deal... however on checking the spec it only uses proprietary filament by XYZ and the machine CHECKS. Price per kg of this is a lot more. Sure someone will tinker a workaround but on that point I'm out.
More for those who want a finished polished easy use product than a tinkerer.
Heat for the deal if it is your thing tho :-)

You can readily flash Repetier on the firmware here:
I think it took 40mins for the battery holder but I could be wrong, the card holder I have no idea how long it took as I wasn't the one who printed it. The quality of the prints suprised me and that fact the printer was virtually plug and play with no real tinkering required. The finish is better on translucent filament like the pink and clear in the pictures. Solid colours like the dreaded black to me don't look as good.

Here's a few examples, the pink battery holders look a lot more rough and ready in the pictures than they actually are in person.

Nice, pleasantly surprised at how nice the finish is. How long did it take to print those?

Piece by piece....might take a while...but patience is a virtue
This looks good to me, but baffles me before I even start
Without looking, does it come with some sort of software to enable you to make stuff?
And is there anything else out there that represents better value for money?
Probably the wrong place to ask but was here reading this so it seemed relevant  (to me at least)

Nope - the finish is perfectly fine. You may have to wash prints from time to time if you use the pritt stick trick to stop prints moving around on the bed - basically washing off glue residue from the underside of the print.

I'm tempted... then I can make my own worthless crap rather than buying it
Currently looking at a USB Thumb drive & SD Card holder on my Desk that was printed out on one of these. It's a nice capable printer, the only downside is they RFID the Filament reels so you have to buy their own stuff. My girlfriend has one, she'd had no real issues with hers but I would advise staying away from the Black filament as she had nothing but jams and blockages with it. Many months and prints later you still see the occasional wisp of black on lighter colour prints.

Do you have to finish off (sand down) the things you 3d print?
Opening post
Maplins are selling it at £299.99 so seems like a good deal.
