Is this a genuine Techwood or a cheap imitation. If genuine then superhot.

This is one of the newer Vestells, but these aren't as good as the old ones.
General rule of thumb, the 48" with 4 HDMI is the one you want (Argos sell it as hitachi, Sainsbury's as Cello). The 49 and 50 are lower spec and missing features - no ARC, the demo 49 in Argos didn't seem to support HDCP 2.2 on both HDMI ports when I played with the menu, which means only one HDMI can take a 4K input, whereas my 48 can have HDCP 2.2 on all 4.

I used to work at AO.com, so can provide a bit of an insight into this. Techwood are ao.com's low end entry-level own brand. They get them direct from a Chinese supplier whom also produce the own-brand stuff like Alba, Hitachi and so fourth. They do not have a resident manufacturer in the UK or EU, and they generally have a hard time answering any deeply technical questions.
The down side is:
Poor production quality. It's cheaply made equipment, not like your Techwood of old (this isn't even the same manufacturer).
Very Little Product Support. We never used to get manuals, and getting any sort of tech question was impossible when we started selling them. If you can't figure out how to do something, ao will be able to offer little assistance.
Upside (beside the price):
Due to the lack of native manufacturer/tech support, ao.com generally can't get your stuff repaired like they would most other brands. This means if you report a fault in the warranty period, they will 99/100 replace the set for you. The only problem is due to the lack of quality, you'll prob have to get it swapped more than once!

Every TV will upscale, you don't need to check.
There may be a question of quality, I'm sure some do it far better than others.
But upscaling HAS TO happen to display a lower resolution picture on your nice HD screen. Otherwise all the normal channels that aren't HD would only take up a quarter of your TV screen and I'd be pretty sure there's no TV's on the consumer market where that'd be the case.

I got a Techwood LCD TV a decade ago for the bedroom, and it's now in my daughter's room and used more or less every day. Still works perfectly and has a great picture.
The remote and the buttons are a bit cheap, but it does the job just great.

What makes you think its an old model - this has Freeview Play - which only seems to be on the latest Vestell manufactured TVs
