This is one of the newer Vestells, but these aren't as good as the old ones.
General rule of thumb, the 48" with 4 HDMI is the one you want (Argos sell it as hitachi, Sainsbury's as Cello). The 49 and 50 are lower spec and missing features - no ARC, the demo 49 in Argos didn't seem to support HDCP 2.2 on both HDMI ports when I played with the menu, which means only one HDMI can take a 4K input, whereas my 48 can have HDCP 2.2 on all 4.

I used to work at AO.com, so can provide a bit of an insight into this. Techwood are ao.com's low end entry-level own brand. They get them direct from a Chinese supplier whom also produce the own-brand stuff like Alba, Hitachi and so fourth. They do not have a resident manufacturer in the UK or EU, and they generally have a hard time answering any deeply technical questions.
The down side is:
Poor production quality. It's cheaply made equipment, not like your Techwood of old (this isn't even the same manufacturer).
Very Little Product Support. We never used to get manuals, and getting any sort of tech question was impossible when we started selling them. If you can't figure out how to do something, ao will be able to offer little assistance.
Upside (beside the price):
Due to the lack of native manufacturer/tech support, ao.com generally can't get your stuff repaired like they would most other brands. This means if you report a fault in the warranty period, they will 99/100 replace the set for you. The only problem is due to the lack of quality, you'll prob have to get it swapped more than once!

Oh boy. You buy a techwood because you are enlightened. Samsung & LG are not the be all of TV. Hell even Hisense are showing the two Korean TV manufacturers how to make good TV at a realistic price. Most people do not have a clue and sprout the usual rubbish. For the money its a bloody good TV. Is it better than a sammy or lg no..however its over 200 quid less.So its a DEAL At this price you simply cannot buy better.

I have the 40" version of this set. I have owned it for a good while with no issues apart from the occasional disconnect from my router. The picture quality is very good for such a cheap tv, and the remote very good quality. The sound quality is also far superior to any other budget set that I have heard. for this price id say it is a bargain.

Which I think is perfectly acceptable to expect when purchasing a 50" 4k tv for £280. Anyone who thinks this TV is going to perform as good as a £700+ 50" is deluded and really shouldn't be purchasing technical hardware. They'd be much better off letting someone with a bit more knowledge make these decisions for them.

Typical ridiculous thing to say... The size of a TV is what's wrong with the world today?
Maybe what's wrong is that people just like to moan about silly stuff. I'm sure older people said similar thngs to you when you were a kid."It wasn't like this in my day" they used to say...
I remember having a small 14" in my bedroom when I was a kid, and people moaned that TVs shouldn't be allowed in bedrooms at all in those days. SMH...

This is his only present so better to get something he's asked for and wants than something he won't use (also his old "2nd hand" tv is faulty)

For people complaining about only 2 HDMI ports then it's easy enough for get an HDMI multi adapter

No HDR and motion rate is only 50hz. You're only going to cheap yourself out of a 4k experience by going with this and not the Samsung TV for £330 (from the same retailer) that has both HDR and high motions rates.

Key Features
4K Ultra HD with upscaling - incredible picture quality
Smart TV - catch up, movies, & more
Freeview HD with Freeview Play - live & catch up TV
2 HDMI ports for consoles and Blu-ray players
1 USB port for connecting external devices
srw985 to paneds
22 Nov 161#38
Every TV will upscale, you don't need to check.
There may be a question of quality, I'm sure some do it far better than others.
But upscaling HAS TO happen to display a lower resolution picture on your nice HD screen. Otherwise all the normal channels that aren't HD would only take up a quarter of your TV screen and I'd be pretty sure there's no TV's on the consumer market where that'd be the case.
