Yes they are perfectly fine for browsing. I put android onto mine as I didn't like using the Amazon interface and app store though.

Keep in mind you cant really use Chrome**, its Silk browser it uses. If youre fine with that it browses fine.
**well you can if you sideload it but then youd have to manually update it and it becomes a pain.

Then buy the kindle 8 Hd or hdx I bought one of these for kids fantastic tablet with real free apps and kids mode and hdx for me I was that impressed

Yes android with amazon bloatware over it you can side load google play App Store if you want but amazon App Store is sufficient

It is technically Android but it doesn't have the Play Store which means you are limited the apps that are on Amazon's app store (which is far inferior to Google's) I mainly bought one to watch BT Sport and Sky Sports which are not available (I didn't realise this at the time). There is a way of flashing a different version to get the play store but the last time I checked it wasn't working with the version of software already on the Fire.
