Haha... you are talking like this is a dear product? It's £29.99! I put more £££ in my car when it needs fuel. The iPad bit is obviously a joke. Not sure what you expect for the price this is.

Wanted to like this but the first one they sent had a dead pixel, they send a replacement but the screen wasn't nearly as nice as the first and had a yellow tint to it then the third was even more yellow!

Very easy to install Play on it as I have done with mine. Rooted, blocked OTA updates, installed Play store, removed Amazon Ads. Job done.
Primarily though I wanted the tablet for the kids (bought 2 of them) and will subscribe to Kids Unlimited for a few months. If they get great use of Unlimited I'll keep it going, if not I'll wipe the devices completely and install a custom rom and turn them into vanilla android tablets instead.

Thanks for taking the time mate, after playing around with it for a couple of hours I still feel the same, its basically an advertising machine designed to shove Amazon ads down the users throat. Bad enough with us adults but horrible for a little impressionable child. I'll get my boy a nice little windows tablet that we can have some control over. Thanks again

I'm confused, what is it you're trying to restrict? Specific apps, in app purchases, or both?
Set Up Parental Controls
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to show Quick Settings, and then tap More.
- Tap Parental Controls and then tap On.
- Enter a password, confirm your password, and then tap Finish. Once you've set a password, you can restrict one or more of the following:
Web browsing
The Email, Contacts, and Calendars apps
The ability to purchase from the content stores on your device (for example, the Amazon Appstore)
Specific content types (for example, Books or Apps)
Wireless connectivity
Location-based Services
Disable In-App Purchasing
- From Home, tap Apps or Games, and then tap Store.
- Locate the app or game you want to buy:
In the Search field, type your search terms, and then tap the magnifying glass.
To narrow your search, swipe from the left edge of the screen, and then tap Browse Categories, Recommended for You, Best Sellers, or New Releases.
- Tap the button displaying the price (if it's a paid app or game) or tap FREE (if it's a free app or game), and then tap Get App.
If you're purchasing a paid app or game, you can complete your purchase using Amazon Coins or your 1-Click payment method. After you buy an app or game, it automatically downloads and installs to your Fire tablet.
- Tap Open to view your app or game. If a License Agreement appears, carefully read the agreement, and then tap Agree to accept the terms and conditions.

I didn't expect to need to pay for an additional kids account on top of my prime account and I don’t want to, how is that unreasonable? What is unreasonable is that Amazon did not to make that crystal clear at the outset but hid it in the small print that no one reads.
There are plenty of tablets that don’t require a subscription to set up restricted access for children especially tablets that are not smothered in opportunities to spend large amounts of daddys money with a single click.

I now have 2 of these tablets. For those interested in modding them the ones I got from John Lewis are running Fire OS v 5.1.1.
5.1.1 is a decent starting firmware (not as good as some older ones though). It is easy enough to root, block OTA updates, remove ads, install Google Play etc. Which I have now done. Anyone who needs to use root hostile apps like iPlayer etc can simply unroot the device with SuperSU when then are done.

These look like decent media players in the store. How are they as basic ebook readers? I know the screen resolution is low but is a doable experience or just not worth it? You tried the Poundland cable with the Microsoft tablet and it didn't work?
If so, were you able to find a cable that did work?
Or some kind of documentation/proof/info about whether your tablet would
work with some kind of cable to show up on TV?
(If you don't know, what's the tablet model? Maybe I can look it up or something.)
Just trying to figure out if the problem is
the cable, tablet software or tablet hardware/ports.

Wow. Completely over your head? They asked because they didn't know. The answers were easy for you to understand but you only need to look at your reply to me (bizarrely stating as a fact I used GOOG to come up with the term SEM) to see that a little bit of uncertainty can bamboozle the mind and make you seem a fool.
And seems to continue to do so because you asked "Ps. I'll post you a partial question on what I was working on today in the morning, tell me the answer?" so again that went over your head. So how does the deal heat answer why a cheap Poundland HDMI to microUSB cable doesn't get a signal on screen? How does the deal heat answer "What if I install android over the Fire OS? Will that make it compatible?" And how does the deal heat answer "And would I be able to reverse it if I change my mind?" Answer is it doesn't. 1497 degrees doesn't mean installing Android over iOS to use a poundland cable with a non smart TV would work or wouldn't work. How can it?
Still waiting to hear how you stated as a fact I used GOOG to come up with the SEM phrase. Did you GOOG it? "How did meathotukdeals come up with the phrase Scanning Electron Microscopy". Good job I didn't mention Phase Contrast!
Remember next time you know nothing about something...never ask a person. Just go GOOG it. One would hope that you've never asked a question about something you didn't know about for many many months/years?

Thinking more broadly it means GOOG doesn't have all the answers at all. And because we don't generally know most things about most things, its often better (this may shock you by the looks of it) to simply ask a question () when you are in a field you know little about and use one of the best search engines and filters going - the human mind - and get a human being to help you out because they know of all the further ramifications of your question and understand your circumstances. We don't all know everything about everything.

I bought a couple of the 8GB last year black Friday for £35 as cheap tablets for the kids, still going strong. Obviously not the best resolution and most powerful but for kids gaming they are fine. I would spend the extra £10 an go for the 16GB.

Yes my friend, science is clear on EMF but as we know from tobacco example, humanity never learn from its past mistakes. It took tobacco industry 50 years to admit the truth and many deaths could have been prevented. But here we go again, big wireless technology businesses are suppressing evidence of harm and market aggressively to make us addicted to gadgets as early as possible and people trusted them once again. I cringe when I see parents letting toddlers use mobiles and tablets. People can educate themselves for free online nowadays but they choose to rely on information displayed on first page of google search and anything further than that is for "tin foil" loonies. Natural selection will have to play its course once again.

8GB plus SD card. We have a couple of HD6's already for the kids in the car and 8GB is plenty for all their apps and games. Videos go onto the SD card. I've gone for one of these just so I can use it as a stand alone music player. I'm fed up with swapping my tablet in / out, and for this price, they are great.

Lol telegraph and Forbes are not good sources in my honest opinion, they're very corporately biased
and lie frequently.
Certainly not scientific authorities.
I definitely think there's something to the Wi-Fi problem,
especially for developing children. (Cells divide more frequently so more mutations are likely?)
For now, all I can recommend is using a long ethernet cable for PC
and limit Wi-Fi (turn on/off when required).
Shame no one's come up with safer versions or at least a way to
receive phone mast and Wi-Fi signals ONLY when needed,
rather than blasting radiation 24/7 and having the phone receive a portion when needed.
The people who think it's 100% safe need to wake up and smell the tobacco.

It is technically Android but it doesn't have the Play Store which means you are limited the apps that are on Amazon's app store (which is far inferior to Google's) I mainly bought one to watch BT Sport and Sky Sports which are not available (I didn't realise this at the time). There is a way of flashing a different version to get the play store but the last time I checked it wasn't working with the version of software already on the Fire.

It's a great tablet for doing the basics online and watching the odd video clip. If you are serious about watching loads of movies and box sets on a table then you wouldn't even be looking at something like this, you'd be paying a lot more for a better screen. I bought one last year and lost it a few weeks ago - bought a replacement one last month at full price (returns widow closed yesterday - damn, can't return and re-purchase ;-) ) and am happy with it for use when I'm not able to access 'proper' computers, etc. A bargain at £30.

PROS:
-£30-40 cheap price, great for a first tablet (IF) you get the instructions on how
to install the Google Play store on it.
-Can run many 3D games surprisingly well. (Not blazingly fast on high settings like
a premium tablet would, but fast nonetheless, guess it depends on what game we're talking about
and how optimised it is.)
-Can run android PS1 emulators
quite well on the right settings. (You may need a certain plugin, if I recall correctly.)
-Can run 2D emulators like Sega Genesis.
-Can connect a cheap (£1 - £3) OTG cable to be able
to access SOME USB devices like flash drives, or an XBOX 360 controller, keyboard, etc.
(But my graphics tablet does NOT work, can't confirm if it happens with other brands/models of graphics tablets.)
My 2TB external hard drive also does NOT show up with OTG, unfortunately.
-Can run Kodi
somewhat reasonably on SD and 720p or even 1080p but it really depends on how high the bit-rate
of your video is, your internet connection speed, etc. (Loading your own videos seems to be quite fast.)
You may need to periodically clear your Kodi cache though as it gets
slow after accumulating a lot of cache files.
-Generally fast. (Just look after it and don't install virus-infected garbage, etc...)
---------------------------------------
CONS:
-Screen isn't that great at a 1024x600 resolution but if it's your first tablet,
you won't mind it too much, it's not a HD screen but it's not that far off 720p (1280x720).
It's not a beautiful screen but it does the job for most things if you're not too picky.
7" screen is fairly small so you may get fatigue playing/watching stuff for extended
periods on it but it's a tablet so can't complain too much until you upgrade lol.
-Sound from speakers is OK, not great, not terrible.
I'm not an audiophile so it's fine for me. (And I tend to use earphones more anyway.)
-Fire OS isn't as nice as a proper Android OS but you could still
install the Google Play store if you find the instructions on how.
(Or you can install Android over your tablet but I have no idea what the pros and cons
of doing that are, whether you lose functionality, I don't know, so don't hold me responsible!)
-Front and back cameras are fairly low quality (almost useless by today's standards)
and reminds me of pre-smart phone era days cameras.
Don't buy the tablet just for the camera, that's all I'm saying.
Actually....thanks to the government's Snooper's Charter, you'll be spied on
in gloriously mediocre quality! So I'd rather just put black tape over them.
-The touch screen sensitivity is not very good, I'll be honest.
My smart phone is far more sensitive even with a screen protector
but the touch screen works ok with what you need it for I suppose.
- 8GB isn't much space for apps, photos, etc.
so an SD card would be useful. (And move apps over to SD card although
there might be slightly less performance, I haven't compared though so can't confirm.)
-Charging takes a while with the charger supplied but then again, you also get a fair amount
of battery life.
If you're going to use it while plugged in, try to avoid it overheating if
you're playing games or something. (Play in a well ventilated room as with any
device.)
--------------------------------
Overall, good first tablet if you can install the Google Play store on it
but if you already have a tablet, this one is likely inferior
so you may want to upgrade to a better, bigger, more sensitive, higher resolution tablet
in the future.
WARNING: your child may become a zombie by introducing them
to a tablet lifestyle, you've been warned lol.
(And the whole Wi-Fi radiation thing which is even more harmful
to children than to adults....which is a problem with smartphones too of course.)
Weigh up the pros and cons yourself.
Glad I bought one for myself (a year ago) despite the significant flaws
as it's my first tablet and ain't too bad. :sunglasses:
You can use it for games, watching movies, TV shows and documentaries, browsing,
looking at presentations/notes for study, other apps, etc.
Not a premium product but quite good for the low price,
especially if it's your first tablet.
LazybeatX
23 Nov 16#89
yes it it by default, to be honest most of the apps you would need are on Amazon's store including ebay. There is a way to put Google play store on the tablet without having to put an entire build of Android onto the it also. Just check YouTube, plenty of tutorials there.

amour3k to The_Hoff
23 Nov 16#61
Depends on what your 'game' is, the way I look at it?.
The Fire OS alone takes at least half of the 8GB (leaving you between 3.5GB-4GB tops?).
And most App's REFUSE to me moved/loaded via an external source too! (eg. to your memory card or whatever?), so .....
If your going to purely do ebooking/pdf book reading and stuffs?, then 8GB would more than be sufficient! (as the bulk of such stuffs can be loaded via external memory card sources in the first place anyway?), so your limited remaining internal space need not therefore be compromised? (so to speak ... )
But if your Fire Tablet has 'other uses' like mad App installation's and the like (similar to that of what I'd be more inclined to do too?), then I'd seriously consider against 8GB anything?.
It's for similar reason's to what I've stated above is why I don't bother with 8GB anything! (be that Tablet, and/or Phone?), 16GB+ is my minimum now?.
But the choice is obviously up to you ..... :-)

Great price, thanks Buzz. Heat.
Out of interest, if I buy two of these for my kids, and don't register them in my name, can I share my Prime books with both devices, or just one? Also, the sentence below seems a little ambiguous about Prime Video -- does it mean you both need to be on Prime to share Prime Video? Thanks.
"Family Library links your Amazon account to that of your spouse or partner so you can easily share apps, games, audiobooks and books, and it now allows Prime members to share their Prime Video content."
EDIT: Alternatively, can I register 2 of these in my name (ie. my Amazon Prime account)?

No, and yes.
No to Google Play, as the version of Android used on this is a custom/priority one called Fire OS by Amazon (Google Play Store is only possible on these by sideloading the APK File on, etc?).
And yes to You Tube, either via the Tablet's built-in browser, and/or via downloading the You Tube App via the Fire OS's Amazon Underground Store (like/similar to Google Play Store, but with a far less array of possible App download options?, though comparable nonetheless?). :-)

I use my Fire tablet most days for reading eBooks or web browsing. It comes with Kindle preinstalled so One Click buy on books is instant. Blue Shade is a really nice feature too and can be used for all other apps as well as Kindle.
The built in browser, Silk has a really nice feature where you can display some web pages in a Reading View Format, which can be handy when an article is broken up with annoying adverts & pop up adVids.
The adverts only pop up on the sleep screen & tbh, they're gone with a swipe so they don't bother me.

got the fire hd6 a few days ago for 23 quid (20% discount applied) and it was delivered today. the screen is good, it is very durable. Even though it was "good" condition, I couldn't find a single scratch. For 23 quid I was more than happy for my 4 year old to have it or chuck it around.

Depends on the missus tbh. It's a great pressie, and Amazon seconds are generally very good. If you are both on the same wavelength re current finanicals it's all good. If not, you're dead meat! Presents during mat leave are a luxury..

Screen looks fine to me, my kids love em, solid build..dropped many a time on hard floors and still going strong (bought last Xmas) battery life pretty good...No complaints here especially for 30 notes!
A quick call/chat with Amazon and they'll take the adverts off no problem.

Good feedback! Agreed 30 notes is a bargain. My iPad Air 2 which I am typing on is probably thinner and less robust! My 4 is like a tank in comparison. Prefer chunky robust electrical system when it comes to handheld gadgets.

Really I wouldn't like to say. I've purchased 'Good', 'Acceptable', 'Very Good', 'Like New' from the Warehouse before and it's literally a lottery. I've had awful 'Like New' items and factory sealed 'Acceptable' and 'Good' items.
I'm just buying a couple for the kids to destroy :-). I'll buy a better tablet for the them when they are a bit older.

Time to give up and get a refund I suppose
Primarily though I wanted the tablet for the kids (bought 2 of them) and will subscribe to Kids Unlimited for a few months. If they get great use of Unlimited I'll keep it going, if not I'll wipe the devices completely and install a custom rom and turn them into vanilla android tablets instead.
If you can get over that its a good tablet!

Edit: Online chat got it sorted and registered it for me.
By the looks of it you get unlimited cloud storage for Amazon products, so if you're concerned about 8GB storage at least Kindle books etc that you get won't eat away at it.
I just picked one up.
Post a source pls or STFU. Cancer diagnosis among children has been flat for 11 years in the U.K.

People just do wind ups to get a rise, like trying to compare a £30 tablet to an iPad Pro?
The thing is the heat on this item answers all the questions.
Ps. I'll post you a partial question on what I was working on today in the morning, tell me the answer?

I (don't) hate HUKD
Do you not understand the concept of pricing or something?
Thinking more broadly it means GOOG doesn't have all the answers at all. And because we don't generally know most things about most things, its often better (this may shock you by the looks of it) to simply ask a question () when you are in a field you know little about and use one of the best search engines and filters going - the human mind - and get a human being to help you out because they know of all the further ramifications of your question and understand your circumstances. We don't all know everything about everything.

Can anyone tell me if all three tablets can use the one Prime account for watching things?
What nonsense is this?

and lie frequently.
The first link only says that product is not compatible with the Amazon Fire 7",
it doesn't actually say whether connecting to a TV is impossible or not, just
that particular product is not compatible when used with a Fire 7" at factory settings.
I'll kick myself if this sells out and no better deal but I'll kick myself if buy this and turns out to be a better deal = catch 22!

There's a load more. That said kids shouldn't be glued to them 24x7
**well you can if you sideload it but then youd have to manually update it and it becomes a pain.
I have a cheap Poundland HDMI to microUSB cable
but no signal appears on screen.
What if I install android over the Fire OS?
Will that make it compatible?
And would I be able to reverse it if I change my mind?
(Is Android faster than Fire OS ??)
Any help is appreciated.:stuck_out_tongue:
But still Hot for the price!
Voting hot but would never buy.
Not a great tablet really.
As for the tablet, a good 18,000 people would disagree.
Also whats their return period? It's as a Xmas gift so ideal wouldn't be getting unsealed until Xmas, if there's an issue with it upon opening a month from now will it be hassle bc over 28 days?
Thanks
http://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-your-amazon-fire-tablet/
The script also used to remove the lockscreen ads, but this has now stopped working on recent updates to the Fire OS. I just contacted Amazon via chat, and they removed them permanently at no charge.
Lol. :-)
Space allowing ofcourse?.
More likely to be able to do for both on the 16GB one more easily?.
As opposed to the 8GB one, where because of a more limited space factor, you may just struggle?.
I don't see any reason not to go for the 8GB model given this.
No to Google Play, as the version of Android used on this is a custom/priority one called Fire OS by Amazon (Google Play Store is only possible on these by sideloading the APK File on, etc?).
And yes to You Tube, either via the Tablet's built-in browser, and/or via downloading the You Tube App via the Fire OS's Amazon Underground Store (like/similar to Google Play Store, but with a far less array of possible App download options?, though comparable nonetheless?). :-)
The built in browser, Silk has a really nice feature where you can display some web pages in a Reading View Format, which can be handy when an article is broken up with annoying adverts & pop up adVids.
The adverts only pop up on the sleep screen & tbh, they're gone with a swipe so they don't bother me.
If this is all you want to use it for then i think it's a great deal. voted Hot.
As it mentions imperfections, are they new unused probably?
A quick call/chat with Amazon and they'll take the adverts off no problem.
:smirk:
I'm just buying a couple for the kids to destroy :-). I'll buy a better tablet for the them when they are a bit older.
Don't have the funds I used to have with a 4 month old!
Used - Good
Minor cosmetic imperfection on the top, front or sides of the item. Back has minor cosmetic imperfection. All purchases eligible for Amazon customer service and a 30-day return policy.
It's a poor resolution by today's standards.
