Having been in two trade requiring the drilling of brick ( other than extremely soft brick) I can say that only, repeat ONLY an SDS drill will drill into brick. The other will eventually do it after a lot of time & stress. If you are up a ladder in winter when it's freezing, you could only agree with me.

I had no problem with doing that. Firstly put £10 off then £5 off and all added nicely. So paid only £35 for that drill.
Thanks
Edit: I also had 10% off code but that didn't work with other codes. If that would work, would have it for £30!

Funny you should say that... Mine got delivered today. Put the first battery on charge, all seemed well (LEDs flashing). Went back an hour later and charger not working at all. Nothing. :-/

agree, I have a few myself, but to say you cannot drill masonry and concrete with anything other than an sds drill is misleading. for most people using red or brown plugs a cheap hammer drill is sufficient.
morrig
29 Oct 16#67
To add, of course a hammer is good enough with good quality bits and using a smaller drill size first then correct size.Sds for breaking concrete etc is invaluable for that and far better than a chisel and hammer .

Showing in stock in my local store, however it is now not available for click and collect. Guess they don't want to let any more go for £40.So, correct to expire as it can only be purchased @£50.

Bargain for £40 as a backup! I brought the Worx Twin Pack Combi Drill and Impact Driver - 20V with 2batteries for £139.99 at Argos in January, then used the Free £10 voucher over £100 spend at checkout to get the Worx 20V 2AH battery with power indicator for £24.99. With quido 9% cashback .
Used all the time great purchase Worx 3 year guarantee and customer service is great too, got the belt clip delivered free.
Just wish they had the same 10 year guarantee as they do with sister company on Rockwell Tools!

This is a good buy. It will drill into brick but slowly, depending on hardness of brick. To drill into brick you really need an SDS drill, hammer drills are really no better than this. I have both an SDS & one of these & between the two they do everything I need. If you can only afford this, buy it, then later get an SDS drill, as & when you can afford it.

SDS is over kill for 99% of jobs around the home. for the last 30 years i have worked in private houses and business premises and if I had a pound for every hole i have drilled then I would be retiring on the moon. In all that time I have used cordless and mains hammer drills, I can count on one hand the times I have had to resort to using a SDS drill.
An SDS drill is over kill in most situations, its horses for courses and SDS is best kept to concrete and engineering bricks.

For anyone near or passing a Homebase it's worth checking in there as these are on offer for £30 in my local Homebase (Sheffield Drakehouse). Have drill/driver sets reduced and also same brand mini-circular saws for the same price.
They are on the silver racks to the right of the main entrance just as you walk in the door (had about 8 of each when I was in yesterday and also some Stanley power tools reduced as well).
Loads of stuff reduced in-store (I picked up new light fittings, picture frames, garden furniture, BBQs, vases, candles etc).

You dont need a hammer drill for breeze block, this would be perfect.

Is this good enough to drill into brick walls/plaster for rawl plugs (e.g. upto 5cm).
jellybeard999 to Southy1983
28 Oct 16#5
Probably ok for plaster, definitely ok for plasterboard, but no good for brick/stone. You want a combi or hammer drill.
jamiebobski to Southy1983
28 Oct 16#29
No. You need a hammer drill for breeze blocks or brick. You need an SDS drill for drilling concrete such as concrete lintels over Windows etc.

I'm no expert but I drilled through a 12" wall (for an aerial cable lead) using a £13 Tesco Value 9.6V Cordless drill, so I'm sure this could sink a few rawl plugs...

I got one of these a couple of years ago as a stopgap when my bosch (blue) drill finally retired with a damp whimper. Wasnt expecting much, but was near the end of a job and it was cheap. The thing was a revelation and whilst light does give a sense of confidence in use. The batteries last for ages and havent aged since getting it. Bargain at this money.
