I've just come off the phone with Sky asking them for a box with more storage than my 2 year old 500GB Sky+ HD box. After giving me their spiel about Sky Q for £199 and falling on deaf ears, the assistant was able to offer me a swap of my old box for a reconditioned 2TB model for £15 + £15 courier delivery, which I consider a very good deal.
FYI the assistant had to trick the system into thinking I already had a 2TB box, but he assured me that this was still a normal procedure rather than a dodge under the table deal - worth finding out for yourself.
Let me know how you get on in the comment section.
I have currently also no "invoice" to prove this, but I'll update with it, if or when I receive one.
Edit: member confirmed comes with 3 months warranty on the reconditioned hardware.
UPDATE: Initially marked as anecdotal, but now confirmed success by several members. And remember, if at first you don't succeed, brush yourself off and try again  - success seem to depend on the person you reach. Some of us had to call three/four times

If your husbands got the money then it yours anyway because both of you are together and you should share everything at least that's what we do. I would love if I can pay my partner that way it would keep them happy giving us a successful relationship

I've tried for this but they wouldn't budge as I only have an old HD box without wifi they wouldn't even give me a new version HD box so I'll have to settle for a free wifi connector instead of a 2tb box

i was on the phone for 1hr 50mins ytying to sort this out....no 2tb to be had, i was missold, and can open a complaint. i was told that i couold only get a refund if i sent the box back,,, which would of meant i would of had no sky box. i told them this was ridiculous, as i would not be able to use sky with no equipment as i had to send mine back to get the newer box! (i didnt send mine back, i got one free off a friend and sent that one back) i told them i wanted to cancel. got a £30 refund onto the account, which is in my husbands name so he gets the refund, as i paid on my card. so now we have a spare box! and im down 30 quid and a few hours of my time, now what to do with the spare box!!!

I don't know. It's either the luck of few or the misfortune of few. I received two boxes, one only arrived Saturday. To be fair though, this seems to be a win-win for sky seeing as its obvious they're phasing out the "old" boxes.
I know at least 8 people that I personally told to try and they all got boxes for £30.

In the middle of call number 4 and i had to laugh. got transferred to the indian call center so i'm giving it the full whammy of "my friend got this box only a few hours ago!" and i'm trying to expand on the details and i hear the line go silent and then a "click" and I said "Did you just put me on hold?" and he mumbled "I'm going to transfer you to our sky experts to see if they can help". And he DID put me on hold mid rant !!.
Still, on with a nice scottish lady who seems far more amenable so we'll see how we go. definitely out after this though if i don't get one.
#edit
Well that's that. When I hung up, I realised i'd been on the phone for an hour and two minutes all told !!. Anyway, she really did try and asked plenty of different people and departments and couldn't do it so I'm satisfied now that this isn't an option any more.

This is what i've just been told as well, although i might ring back and try again with the 'already have a 2tb box' trick.

Just made 2nd call and mentioned the 'already have one' aspect and they've said that they have no idea what i'm on about and that the 2TB boxes have been completely phased out and none are available.
Might wait an hour and try one more time..
#edit 2
Call Number 3: Didn't wait an hour but just tried again and got through to an indian call centre. kept me on hold for a while but was also quite insistent that no 2TB boxes are available now.

Having seen deals on this site go hot where it's obvious it's one person getting one thing in one store then this in itself wouldn't really surprise me, but i'm about to ring sky myself and see if i can get one.

Went through a chat session with one of the India support team last night. Same negative response.
"Sky no longer have Sky+ boxes so I cannot receive one".
It would be good to know how many people out there have actually been sent one of these under this replacement option or whether this thread has grown hot because of the luck of just a couple of people?
Either way good luck to whoever has been successful.

Talked to a lady in Scotland yesterday who stated that they had been instructed not to sell Sky+ any more only Sky Q. She also pointed out that I currently have a 500 GB box at the moment so it would be an upgrade anyway. She pointed out that if I had technical issues and a Sky engineer visited my home that he would replace the box on a like for like basis. Not a lot of help really so I think I may give up and stick with what I have got.

Call Sky Broadband support and say your SR102 is not performing as well as the device you had from your previous supplier as it does not have 1GB Ethernet / USB / Dual Band. If you lay it on enough, they'll send you a Sky Q hub for free.

Just search for copy+ on google- i've done it myself and its "relatively" straightforward. Just be aware you need to open up your old sky box to remove the hard drive, and then the same again on the new sky box so you can transfer the recordings. (Which will probably invalidate your 3 month warranty)

Good deal but not sure if I will go for it. I'm anxious to try to "cut the cord" in terms of sky subscription and moving towards netflix/amazon prime/catchup services. Having 2TB filled with 1000's of hours of tv is going to make it much harder!

I understood my reconditioned one would be delivered and the old one collected at the same time. However the new one was delivered today by royal mail and the postman didn't ask for the old one. There is a postal label in the box I got today for sending back the old one, but the note accompanying appears to imply its optional to send it back rather than obligatory. Nevertheless, I will send it back. Dont want them charging me for it somewhere down the line!

What I was trying to say, and in my experience dealing with Sky, it's a bit hit or miss what call agent answers the phone as the call centres appear to be in England, India or Scotland.
India appears to be where the call to Sky gets prioritised to and then, if there are more complicated problems, they will route you through to Scotland.
In my experience, Sky have a policy of letting the native English speakers deal with more complicated issues as the Indian guys appear to just stick to a script.[/quote
I got through to an Indian call centre and managed to get the box. Called yesterday and box has already arrived. Whoever you get I think you just have to persist saying if others get the offer, there is no reason why you shouldn't. If that fails of course its always worth ending the call and reconnecting with another agent. That seems to works for many. Would be nice though if they all sung from the same hymn sheet.
sebrichter
13 Oct 16#93

Sky Q does in fact get its signal from a sky dish, too watch sky Q on the main box there is no real requirement for Internet apart from it generally updates daily and the TV guide which I think are now downloaded from Internet rather than through the dish, problem really begins if you want the seperate sky Q mini box upstairs(muktiscreen in effect) as the sky Q minis do not get connected to the dish via cable, they connect to your box downstairs via your homes wifi network!!

For the record
Called yesterday and got through to a UK agent who denied any knowledge, told me it's not possible, said I can only upgrade to Sky Q. When I told him many people have got it he said they are out of stock and even those who ordered will be lucky to get the 2TB version as there is no guarantee.
Tried again today. Got through to an Indian agent who didn't fob me off and completed the order for me in no time. He verified it will be a 2TB box.
Just saying.

It wasn't a sales call. You applied online using a code from MSE to get free bb for a year and half price libe rental (there are threads on here somewhere). Sorry to thread hijack but slightly similar issue.
Took out standard 12 month Sky broadband and phone line through one of those MSE codes 4 months ago.
Received the standard router but it is single band and one piece of equipment struggles and works better on the 5ghz band.
Found out now i could have picked a better dual band router for £20 at the beginning but didn't realise.

But that's the great thing, that's where the sales of goods act comes in. Just because it's a limited warranty, there can be an expectation of it working for a foreseeable future, especially when it is "reconditioned". Also, while there's no guarantees of course, my hdd is also 30 months old, which has equally limited life in it. I think with the new box I can talk with sky about replacing if it breaks within the contract period, the old box I can't.
I am very happy with this compared to a new box, which would set you back a three figure sum.

Just tell them you're cancelling because your box is playing up, they'll send you a free one. Don't know anyone who pays for new boxes from sky

That wouldn't work for someone that's just renewed though.
I understand I should have asked for a new one at renewal negotiations, but I forgot. So this is for all those that are stuck and need more storage.

My Sky HD keeps saying "FAILED" next to several recordings with "Technical fault" next to the failed items. Anyone else have this issue?

Is there a padlock symbol next to the recordings?
I had a similar issue and had to have a new box.

Thanks, just called and got the deal straight away no problem. 3 month warranty on the box as its reconditioned. It is an exchange service so they will be getting one of my many old boxes.
Crazy, they offered me an 'engineer' visit to ascertain if my box had a problem. If it was found faulty I would receive a reconditioned box, and this would cost me 60 quid. How mental is that. 30 quid delivered to my door, or 60 quid with an engineer visit. Sky must think some of us are totally fecking stupid. The call handler saw the stupidity of it!
No question of this being a dodgy deal as some are suggesting. The call handler knew straight away what I was looking for. A 2TB box to replace my 500GB multiroom box.

Just called and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about.
Edit: Agent has just informed me that people will get caught out as the agent has done this under a "doorstep exchange" I.e. swapping a faulty box and Sky will see a 500mb box being replaced by the 2tb box when they receive the old box.

We'll have to wait and see. But just to confirm, the agent confirmed to me when I expressed the same worry and not wanting to get "into trouble" that this is above board. I certainly didn't publish this as a means of encouraging people to become criminals.
Personally I didn't mislead sky. I absolutely told them all the facts about my reason for calling which was the upgrade for more capacity.

It was worth a go and good luck to those who managed to get one!

Like I said. It's anecdotal. Though it worked for a few others here. Guess it depends who's on the other end of the phone and if they're willing to help you and bend some rules.

I was wondering the same. But seeing as it is bought from sky directly as a reconditioned product, I think the sales of goods act applies.

Just tried them again and they said they would have to send an engineer out at a cost of £60 and no guarantee I would get a 2tb replacement.

By the way, I think the best way to success would be to tell them that you're aware of the practice and that you know someone that was offered it. They can't play dumb this way and would have to make up an excuse why i deserve this "deal" and you don't. Fingers crossed.

Gosrani I think they are just upgrading the sky+ hd box to a 2TB sky+ hd box and not the Sky Q upgrade therefore nothing has to be done to the LNB/Dish as it still only uses two feeds.

Voted hot. Thanks so much for the post  My old 500gb box is always running at 5% or below and I'm always deleting programmes I want to keep. Just called up and got the same offer, 2TB box for £30. There was some initial resistance with the person tell me there aren't any boxes left, but I pushed on quoting that I had read someone had got one just an hour ago. Anyway thanks again OP. Was looking to get a 2tb box off ebay, but doubt I would have got one for £30.00

they have to send out sky engineer to adjust/replace the LNB on satellite dish. If they have tricked the system into thinking you already have 2T Sky Q box then they may not send out an engineer. This may mean you may not get the full functionality.
At a guess this maybe the ability to record 4 programs and watch the 5th.
Opening post

I know at least 8 people that I personally told to try and they all got boxes for £30.
Still, on with a nice scottish lady who seems far more amenable so we'll see how we go. definitely out after this though if i don't get one.

Well that's that. When I hung up, I realised i'd been on the phone for an hour and two minutes all told !!. Anyway, she really did try and asked plenty of different people and departments and couldn't do it so I'm satisfied now that this isn't an option any more.
#edit
Just made 2nd call and mentioned the 'already have one' aspect and they've said that they have no idea what i'm on about and that the 2TB boxes have been completely phased out and none are available.
Might wait an hour and try one more time..
#edit 2
Call Number 3: Didn't wait an hour but just tried again and got through to an indian call centre. kept me on hold for a while but was also quite insistent that no 2TB boxes are available now.
Don't know if i can be bothered to try again .
Not holding out a great deal of hope though.
"Sky no longer have Sky+ boxes so I cannot receive one".
It would be good to know how many people out there have actually been sent one of these under this replacement option or whether this thread has grown hot because of the luck of just a couple of people?
Either way good luck to whoever has been successful.
Glad you got it sorted in the end.
Model is an Amstrad DRX895W, which is selling for £250.00 on eBay:

I thought Sky Q is the new recording box for those taking Sky TV? Or am I getting mixed up?
Channel 4 is the best
Edit: When b ugger gets censored to look like you're insulting someone.
Number is 0333 202 2170
Called yesterday and got through to a UK agent who denied any knowledge, told me it's not possible, said I can only upgrade to Sky Q.
Thanks OP
Did a 1TB first but nearly filled it so got a 2TB HDD on offer and swapped it over, including recordings. Finally have over 70% free
Probably not worth doing now as they can be had on ebay for around £60 if you are patient
Take your time to read a post properly next time.
That way, you won't react Pavlov-like in expressing your faux outrage and end up making a fool of yourself.
PS I did read your post in full a...h..e
But as I stated previously, and you obviously didn't bother to read, I believe Sky's call centre model is for India to do the non-complicated stuff because when I have spoken to them before, they always escalate any issues they cannot resolve to Scotland.
I used to work in banking and they use the same model i.e. outsource the basic stuff to India, Philippines etc... and then escalate any problems to the U.K.
Sorry. Didn't mean to suggest you're a xenophobe.

If you get an Indian guy just say you don't understand his accent and they will put you through to Scotland.
I think they want £50-60 to change it now.
Anyone have any luck getting it cheaper before I ring them up?
I wonder how long the 2tb hdds last after 3 months. They could be years old.
I am very happy with this compared to a new box, which would set you back a three figure sum.
