It's a long story and generally starts an argument of Nvidia vs AMD when mentioned on the internet.. but in a nutshell; the AMD will likely age slightly better as it has superior Vulkan and DX12 support currently due to architecture, hardware level async, etc but whether or not that actually translates to better performance within any meaningful time frame requires game developers making better use of DX12 / Vulkan features which will likely happen but whether it happens before the current gen cards are so old they're obsolete anyway is yet to be seen. AMD do tend to support their previous gen cards much longer than Nvidia with driver optimisations which can be significant if you always play the very latest games without the latest hardware. If you plan to keep your card for many years before upgrading again then the AMD is probably a better choice. That said, there are only a handful of DX12 / Vulkan games currently and that's not going to change overnight. Careful of calling anything 'futureproof' as it's not really possible no matter what anyone tells you. There are also other direct comparisons to make as mentioned such as power, heat, etc which tend to favour the Nvidia cards, as well as DirectX11 support being far superior on the Nvidia cards which is most games out currently.
That is the VERY much shortened version and it was still pretty long :P
Hope that helps a bit anyway

imo this is a great price. The jetstream cooler is superior to the dual which retails for around this price normally. if anyones considering I think this is a great shout

Shame it's a Palit. Would've been all over this if it was a Zotac or KFA.
Here's a 6 GB Zotac for the same £230, though as I said above I'm not very sure on brand differences. But just going off the fact that you said Zotac, hopefully this helps you out.

Cheer OP, urgently need new one but wont spent 400 on 1070, this will do nicely for 1080.

Is it worth upgrade to this from a Msi r9 390 card?

absolutely not. Keep your card the performance difference isn't worth the price at all.

Which is the most recommended GTX 1060 to get? Can someone who follows brand benchmarks and such tell me?

If money is no object, then the ASUS Strix 1060's are probably the 'best'. Although their prices are fairly close to some 1070 so kinda hard to justify IMO.
A very good card is the Inno3d ichill X3 1060, very good cooler and cheaper than the ASUS strix cards although still quite pricey atm.
The EVGA ACX3.0 1060 cards (unreleased as yet) will likely be very good as EVGA are top notch for nvidia cards.
Some of the Palit 1060's are good (the jetstream and the pheonix versions), the 'Dual' version is cheap and not terrible.
MSI Gaming X 1060 cards are solid but pricey. MSI Armor version I'm not familair with for the 1060 specifically but are usually pretty good value.
The Zotac Amp edition for the 1060 is not great tbh they cheaped out on the cooler a little too much it seems. Unusual as Zotac are often good.
The Gigabyte 1060's are very good and competitively priced.
KFA2 cards are usually great, I assume their 1060's are no different.
Maybe some I've forgotten let me know. Hope that helps a bit anyway
I think this maybe a listing error on their site; the part number listed is NE51060015J9-1061D which correlates to the Palit 1060 Dual (ie. an inferior version)
Yep that's an ACX one, must have just released as I've been following the EVGA press releases. Not a great price though as that's getting close to some 1070's. All 1060's to consider should be <£300 IMO

Maybe worthwhile to check with box.co.uk first if you're considering buying.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong
Edit: Isn't this an ACX 3.0 1060 card?
