A lot of phone for £133 - pretty much a 2015 flagship in terms of specification. It seems that Gigaset used to be owned by Siemens so there is some pedigree there too. Not a bad looking device either!
Here is an extract from a German review :-
The first impression is also very positive because the box is not only the smartphone itself, a charger and a USB 2.0 to USB Type C cable, but also a high-quality headset. Last but not least, the fingerprint reader, which is located on the back of the device underneath the camera, also knows how to please. It awakens the device by a one-time placing the finger out of the standby and also turns off the screen lock as it should.
The Gigaset ME not only brings the Snapdragon 810 and 3 GB RAM under the hood, but also USB Type C, 32 GB internal memory and a beautiful 5-inch display with full HD resolution are installed in the smartphone. With current flag ships the device can not keep up, but to the IFA in September 2015 it was still top, especially since it also has a fingerprint sensor, a pulse meter and a strong 3000 mAh battery.

I've got this phone. I bought it from Antelife and it is a very impressive phone for the money. Everything works great including the heart rate scanner, battery life, speed and camera. The fingerprint scanner works every time unlocking the phone too.
The only issue I have is with the Gigaset Android Launcher. I like an app drawer whereas this has a more MIUI interface which I don't like. Not an issue as such, I installed a replacement home screen launcher called Action Launcher which works great.
Surprisingly, screen protectors and cases can be found with ease on the usual outlets. You can also make use of desk docks as the charger socket is central at the bottom of the phone. Just ensure that you get a USB-C type dock or charger cables etc, not standard Micro USB.
There are no custom ROM's that I am aware of and nor do I expect there to be any. The user base of Gigaset Me phones is too low? There is a way to root the phone and install TWRP Recovery here: [ROOT] [TWRP] Gigaset ME/ME Pro from those clever folks over at XDA Developers.
I've heard that Gigaset have now dropped out of the Android Phone market, which is a shame as they made a great phone here. Be aware though that it does mean any updates to newer Android version from Gigaset is unlikely.

I'm tempted as I desperately need a new phone. The problem comes if something goes wrong with the phone. I imagine there is little support and returns are surely out of the question unless you're willing to front the return costs. voted hot but not sure whether it's for me

Here is my 2 cents ... I would avoid the SD810.
I managed to pick up a new ZUK Z2: SD820 4GB/64GB ... it was posted on here, I got it for £170. Then I flashed the Z2's Indian firmware on it with latest security updates. It's stable & very fast.
I think the SD820 will get Nougat & a bit of future proofing.
Powerful, shame about the ancient OS :disappointed:

Lollipop is the most used version of Android followed by KitKat. So while it may not be the newest it is the most relevant.

Nougat will run on the majority of modern SD SoCs, it is all down to the device manufacturer.

From my understanding the SD810 will not pass Google's CTS and that's why the Sony Z3 will not get Nougat. It was speculated that it lacked the per file/folder encryption speed required.
