I'll tell what is dumb, someone who sees a headline figure of £970 and then can't deduct £230 (the value of the Xbox) from that to get the true purchase price, even if we ignore Quidco and any cashback you might get from a credit card. We can all play the waiting game, sure there's something better coming along, but one thing you can be sure, with the latest comes a premium price, and as soon as that's released, there will be something better in the pipeline next month, next year or whenever.
At some point if you have a need, you have to purchase the equipment, you can't wait for the next great thing coming along, at this point in time the Surface Pro 4 with an i5 bought from Currys is probably the lightest and best value tablet you can get, providing you need the i5. Otherwise maybe it's worth waiting.
The fact that MS didn't announce the kaby lake powered surface, suggests either it's not the step change some seem to believe, or that it's not available now, which is perhaps more believable, but if you're going to wait until early 2017, why not wait even longer for Cannonlake? Personally I want the power today, and I'm not waiting 4 months plus to get a 10% boost to performance and maybe, though it's open to debate, 7-10% more battery life.
You make the mistake of telling people what to do, when you've got no idea of their need, yeah maybe you can wait in your personal position, but many can't and maybe will see this deal as an ok machine plus free christmas present, ok machine and something they would have purchased free, or an ok machine at a good price once the free gift is sold.
As for Thunderbolt 3, that can wait until I refresh my equipment in 3+ years time, how long has USB3 been out, and how many devices support that at full speed? Thunderbolt is yet more tech. that will require converters to make it work with everything we own today, doesn't really provide any benefit, since USB3 is still easily capable of managing all my peripherals.

RRP is controlled on Surface products by Microsoft, so yes people do still pay RRP. Still not inflated price, and as for it being overpriced, that would be a matter of opinion :smirk:

Weren't there rumours they won't be refreshing the line until next year due to intel roadmap? There hasn't been any leaks / teases either...

And all the expectation is that there will be NO new models, not even a refresh until spring next year.
At least in Surface and surface book models.

Depends on who you believe. I suspect you are correct but there have been reductions and special offers lately and Amazon are showing the current models as "OLD model".
In any case, it would be a silly move to buy before the news comes later today - the prices are not going to suddenly go up the instant a new model ISNT announced!

So is it usually £971.10 or have they raised the price to suit ?
