Pity it's not a steam key. I like to keep all the stuff I don't use in one place.

Gamemaker is an excellent way to test the water in game dev, you can make decent games without coding, and even better ones if you branch into its scripting language, and there are TONS of good tutorials on youtube and other sites for it. True its not 3d and it might seem basic to some, but it is a great starting point for making games
If you do decide to try it dont go for the cheapest option, bite the bullet and fork out the $15 (about £12 ish) and get the complete set of export modules for it, which will let you get your games onto web browsers and mobile phones easily. Because if you dont and you turn out a great game down the line those modules are costly. Plus with the $15 option, you get a ton of games and source code to help you along. Worse case, you end up with some fun wee games to play and a bit of game development software that gathers dust on your pc.

Was creating a game years ago using an old version of this. Hopefully easy enough to import that and carry it on. Porting the game to android might reignite my interest a bit.

I think I'll get this as a gift for my mate whose making games currently, using stuff like Pyxel Edit and Ruby/Java. I'll have to ask him as I think he's using RPG Maker and maybe Unity, so might not want/need another game maker engine.
