Gamemaker is an excellent way to test the water in game dev, you can make decent games without coding, and even better ones if you branch into its scripting language, and there are TONS of good tutorials on youtube and other sites for it. True its not 3d and it might seem basic to some, but it is a great starting point for making games
If you do decide to try it dont go for the cheapest option, bite the bullet and fork out the $15 (about £12 ish) and get the complete set of export modules for it, which will let you get your games onto web browsers and mobile phones easily. Because if you dont and you turn out a great game down the line those modules are costly. Plus with the $15 option, you get a ton of games and source code to help you along. Worse case, you end up with some fun wee games to play and a bit of game development software that gathers dust on your pc.

A heads-up for those who bought this - depending on exactly when you've redeemed your licences on yoyogames.com, you may now be able to request Steam keys. You'll need to allow two weeks since licence redemption, but you can then use the licence recovery tool on your account page to request keys.

Do game keys have an expiry date? I feel like I've bought so many bundles and have not activated so many keys

Often not, but there's certainly the potential for keys to either expire or be revoked in certain circumstances.

I agree, if I didn't say earlier. Don't think it's the complete set though, there's quite a few export modules but you get the HTML5 one in the second tier which is arguably the most important one since you can make playable browser games. This means you can develop games for the Wii U and I believe Facebook, not sure about anything else.

I didn't realise this bundle had game making software included, sounds very interesting! I'm trying to get into programming lately but still at a very basic level. do you need to know stuff to get games to work or do you use the software to do everything easier. will have to check out some YouTube videos!

Gamemaker can be used using purely drag and drop with some settings typed in for basic games, but to get the best out of it the use of code is advised. It's often quicker using the code. Shaun Spalding videos linked above (there are a lot more) is a good start to the basics.

I'm testing it out now (the free version). It looks an interesting product but how well do the games port to Android, Apple and Windows and touch screens in general? Can it make use of the phones sensors for instance?
While $15 is not a lot in the scheme of things, I don't want to waste it. There's still 12 days before the offer ends.

I'm assuming you don't get a steam key for GameMaker: Studio itself.
It only shows the key icon on the bundle page and not the steam icon, can anybody confirm this one way or another please.

The basic version of GameMaker is free on Steam so I was thinking maybe the Pro key is used in the program itself to unlock the Pro version. But from what other people have said maybe not, but it sounds like you can get a Steam key from them either way. I'll be buying it so will confirm once I've tried it.

Yes! I made PACMAN Multiplayer VS. One player controls 2 Pacman, the other controllers 8 Ghosts. Play one round, then switch. Whoever eat more wins.
Got the multiplayer down, tired to make AI for single player, then gave up.
The game was suppose to be like Mario Party with 1-4 player, re-imagined versions of all the classic arcade games with a VS twist. Didn't get much of that done.

It's a pretty good deal compared to the normal price. I was a bit sceptical at first because it seemed like GMS was free to download via the official site and HTML5 export seems pretty useful but I don't know if £8 is worth it if you've never used the software before. If you don't make anything then you'll have wasted £8.
So I checked the official site. Turns out this is GMS:Pro, not the free version, worth $150! HTML5 export is $200 so that's $350 combined. I make that to be just over £200 worth of product. I don't know if GMS:pro is regularly discounted but if not it's a good price.

I already have GameMaker, and although I spent a fair bit of time with it initially, I haven't touched it in a few years. This is a great deal to pick up all the modules though. I'm very tempted to get back into it (at least at some point).
Good to know, thanks. I went for the top-of-the-range $15 tier as I have high hopes for what I'll never get around to. Hopefully it still works when I retire in 25 years time.

You can request Steam keys via the YYG website I believe. However, the Steam version does lag behind in terms of getting program updates (I think this is mainly due to the policies Steam employs with regards to updating products on it).

seems legit, got it all for $15. Looks very basic compared to unity3d but i'll give it a go.

It is only 'basic' in terms of the GUI really, it's a different product entirely to Unity et al. You can do a bit of 3D with GM, but it's basically a 2D engine (and an excellent one at that). If 3D is your thing then you probably want to steer clear and look at Unity or Unreal etc.
In terms of the GUI it does have a pretty out-dated look and feel to it, which is why I guess this is on sale so much lately. The new version is sure to be out either later in the year or early next year but is rumoured to be a subscription model which may not appeal to everyone. Obviously there will then be the bug-fixing, learning curve etc that comes with a new product so there's plenty of life left in this version yet - especially if you're focus is on 2D!
The $15 bundle is good value as you'll get the source code for the games too, which may be particularly useful if you're interested in learning from the techniques those developers use in their games.

I think I'll get this as a gift for my mate whose making games currently, using stuff like Pyxel Edit and Ruby/Java. I'll have to ask him as I think he's using RPG Maker and maybe Unity, so might not want/need another game maker engine.
