Why so? With a series of intricately-crafted, 'sandbox' style missions/levels, it seems pretty well suited to me (and is doing pretty well with this model so far).

Yep, my thought exactly. I'm not certain that I'l keep this in place, but this is a great price for now so there's nothing to lose with a protective order.

I thought the whole game will be released on disk at once? What does this first season thing came from? I'm just confused as sold the digital code I've got from collectors edition of this just in hope of replacing the gap with the disk in the box and now this?
What you get on-disc is the same six missions as what comes with the currently available season pass.

I believe they're making a season each year for three years (so long as sales go well). you'll need a new season pass each year to continue to get content on release day or wait until the end of each year to get the complete season edition.
