Equivalent to a i5-4570 which still retails for ~£175. Could pair with one of the recent GPU deals for a great budget gaming PC, although depending on the GPU, you may need to swap out the PSU.

From my personal experience E3-1225V3 performance is somewhere between i5-6600 and i5-6600K, way above i5-4570

Can you not get a molex to 6/8 pin power adapter? I have an old Precision P690 with a 1KW supply (250W at tickover), and a GTX960 which I think uses about 50W. With modern power saving technology this should be ok I reckon?

Wait for a gtx 1050, no power connector just 75w rated using PCIe bus? Should get almost gtx960 performance (maybe more) with half the power requirements so good for 1080p using the PSU it comes with.

As Skylake didn't have much gain over Haswell, it is still very similar to Skylake performance.
However, E3-1225V3 is the same architecture as i5 4570 (Haswell), released in same quarter, and with same clock rates. They're 2 sides of the same coin.

Pretty decent deal if you need a cheap server. ECC RAM does seem to help in keeping Win Server or Linux running and stable for long periods of time without restarts.

I have an i5-4570 in my main desktop PC and a T20 with the Xeon (running ESXi 6.0 and various VMs). They're basically the same chip apart from the Xeon having a bit more L3 cache - which only makes any difference with 'server' workloads.
