There is really little difference in price from the providers that charge line rental but then give free (or discounted) broadband. Just worded different to make it sound better!

yes they will "magic it" to your house

£22 is basically inclusive of the line rental. Vodafone still have to pay it, they are just wrapping it up in the £22 charge.
Clever marketing for silly people.

That's not fibre optic broadband, it's fibre to the cabinet. Looks like a good deal though and good to see they have adopted the price requirements as required by Of communication later in the year. I.e. no hidden line rental charge.

You should also factor in a potential 60 pounds extra if the home doesn't have a BT Openreach line installed.

I believe that would only be for ADSL broadband as there is no need for a line with fibre optic if there's no line rental cost?

No, this for a fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) product, which means that the fibre runs to the cabinet and from the cabinet to your premises you still need to have a copper telephone line.

Technically, there isn't one needed for ADSL either. The providers charge the 'line rental' to maintain the infrastructure that leads to your house and 'offer' telephone just to maintain legacy with old times.
Also, most services in the UK are fibre to the cabinet, with, so there is a line to your house (Virgin included, they had fiber to the cabinet well before DOCSIS 3)
Go to the Vodafone site and it says no...... I'm in the middle of an urban area.... Seemed to have skipped my road, as its available in the next one over, wierd!!

Well depends what they mean by BT Openreach. I used to have BT Openreach with EE broadband before now Vodafone system says I need a new line.

That doesn't really mean that the quality of signal will be good in all those homes. My own experience was that the original line laid by OpenReach to my home needed to be replaced (and only were replaced after months of to-ing and fro-ing and demands and hassle).

You are right and wrong at the same time. They aren't stating it's FTTP so FTTC is technically fibre and more often than not you get the speeds they advertise unlike ADSL.

Same difference - so's Virgin. fibre to the local node, then co-ax to your property.

FTTC is fibre optic broadband, it just doesn't quite reach your house and uses copper for the last little bit from the end of your street or wherever, hence the need for a phone line. Only Virgin offer FTTH (to the home) but this fibre is the same as anyone else using Openreach (everyone but Virgin). Virgin is faster but to say this isn't fibre optic will confuse people since it is exactly what most of Britain knows as Fibre Optic Broadband.
the no line rental is useful.. thou if you already have a line installed, do they need to install a second line ?

I agree, I pay £28 inc line rental for infinity 2 unlimited with BT, all providers will do a good deal if you phone them and enquire. Personally I wouldn't want to pay £28 or £22 just for broadband when you can get the same or similar with line rental with a bit of back and forth to get a deal

Dunno, it looks about £5-10 cheaper per month to me.
Any scope for getting discount if you're a mobile customer?

Exactly, i bet no line rental is actually worse as service providers can't increase the amount they charge for line rental, but with plans without line rental they can increase the price annually as they wish.. seems like clever trickery from Vodafone

Surely one big difference is that this is not sold as a discounted package, as such hopefully no faffing about and swapping providers every 12-24 months.

Indeed - £29 for 70mbps is exactly what I currently pay Virgin. This is great though as I can try and get Virgin to price match the 22 for 40mbps deal (which is plenty)

Yeah so true. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. "Free" line rental that's absorbed into the monthly charge. Clowns wouldn't even fall for this......
