It's... not terrible, by a fair way.
Absolute cheapest chip+board+ram combo for that spec would be around £260 (H110M board, single stick of crucial basic ram). The included windows 10 may now push it over the line as that's another... 60/70 at least. You've got a 1TB drive... £35 and a case and PSU (though you'd want to replace the PSU) so... another... £40 seems reasonable.
For something slightly beyond a potato masher build (which is basically something like "absolute cheapest possible to [email protected]") you have options with it.
It's about £400 worth of parts including windows for £313 so... I'd consider that a deal.
Hey so how much hassle would it be to swap the PSU out? since im thinking of getting this and maybe an 1070 or 1060

Hi first time building my first PC. Was it hard to replace the PSU? Im thinking of getting a 2nd hand 980TI. would this be bottlenecking anything?

I haven't replaced the PSU, just added the 750ti and SSD. When I'm home at the wknd I'll have a look to see how much hassle a PSU swap would be; there's not a huge amount of room in there, but it's not as crammed full as an SFF machine..

Thanks to the OP for posting this, finally got round to setting up the one I bought for #1 son last week. Stuck a 750ti in it and added and a cheap 120GB SSD as the boot drive, job done. PC Passmark scores 3600, a nice versatile machine for less than 450 quid total.

Anyone got theirs yet? how much room is there in the case for a graphics card?

Only £10 more at PC world business so not a huge saving
The very newly announced 3Gb version of the 1060 could ideal... (previously this summer they released the well reviewed 6gb version). The 3Gb version is supposedly being sold for sub $200 and has 10% less performance and competes directly with AMD's RX 470.... Supposedly there's a short version from EVGA which you can order direct from them already...
So it includes 2 x USB 3 ports on the rear, + another 4 usb 2's. Plus 2 x usb ports on the front.
It has one PCIe x 16 (3.0) graphics port. Hooray...!!
Plus: One (1) PCIe x 1 (2.0)
One (1) PCI 2.1 (optional, select countries only)
So should be able to take the new breed of fancy cards, assuming there's enough space in the computer case.
I'm gambling a little and hoping it all works well with a new PSU and card... fingers a little warily crossed...

Is the feeling that GPUs such as GTX970/1070 would fit this case?

Brilliant.. finally ordered a pc after a long time waiting for the right price.
Just ordered this one.. tomorrow I'll order a new atx psu and possibly a 1060 or 1070. plus eventually upgrade with an ssd and 16gb of ram. no doubt self build witg a cooler case and better motherboard makes sense but I want a balance between ease, performance and price.
We wanted a cheap rig to let us try out a bit of vr in our animation studio with an oculus rift or HTC vive and this should do the trick without breaking the bank. (though buying a new vr headset might). We're predominantly Mac based but willing to jump back into the waters of windows for a spot of vr, plus the wealth of great new gpu's could be great for colour grading and 3d work.

Forgot about the 1060 but yes. It's a good time to get into PC gaming. Nice cheap powerful GPU's. All future XB1 titles coming to PC via Windows 10. Cheap PC titles from the likes of humbel bundle ect.

Or the newly announced 3GB 1060. Its a nice time to have these very powerful sub £200 graphics cards.

Before people ask, the PSU is 180W and thus useless for a graphics card. You'd need to replace that first.

New PSU and a RX 480 or 470 or even a 460 would make this a good little PC.

Could you add a SSD into this easily? If so, could you add it in addition to the existing hard drive?

For a gfx card you can easily find a 750ti but there are equivalent versions of the 950, which require no extra power and they should eventually bring out a 1050. The 950 is approx 50% better than 750 in games so is worth the extra money. Amd might do something equivalent (460?) ...
950 is great for 1080p gaming AFAIK. two cards

good point. for laptop / netbook i use an atom for battery life. my i3 laptop lasts 2 hours. my atom netbook 8 hours. for desktop the i3 would rock. i have never worked out the electricity consumption difference cost but it does matter for battery life

anyone got any thoughts on an old i3 series 2 vs new pentium?
mercutio98uk to jameshothothot
17 Aug 16#18
If they're same price, the i3. There's about... 10% per generation between the last 4. It's much closer when overclockers. The pentium are a bit lacklustre for anything but a bit of mild browsing.
seems fine for browsing and office. my i5 has around 6000 cpu benchmark. and i play lots of games with it (with a gtx 750ti graphics card - it's just a business pc and i didn't upgrade the psu)

I'm looking for a cheap PC for my business, only really needs office apps, browsing etc so nothing fancy. Followed this, then found others with cashback, and ended up at this option:
Seems ok for my needs, anyone know any better or a better option? Another option is to spend £350 and get £100 cashback instead, but like I said, only needs to be basic and I'll probably put in a cheap SSD, no need for 1TB.
