This seems a great price for what I think is called a PoE system, 4 cameras and looks very similar to one on Amazon at double the price:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pittsburgh-Surveillance-Technology-Continuous-Smartphone-4-Channel-1TB/dp/B00Q8E1H7M

A question about CCTV in a deal thread about CCTV is irrelevant is it? Who put you in charge?

The NVR provides power to the cameras. You can only use the cameras provided with this (or another ZMODO) NVR as they appear to be specifically wired to communicate with this NVR.
If one of your cameras breaks, you cannot plug in another brand POE compatible camera - it will not work. This NVR provides sPOE which does not comply with the normal POE standard.
The cameras that are supplied with this have their own proprietary protocol and wiring. If you try and plug one of these in to a switch that provides POE, it will not work.
Normal Ethernet requires a minimum of 4 wires for TX and RX data, these cameras transmit their data over 2 wires so goodness knows what kind of interface or protocol they are using.
So ........ bottom line .......
If the NVR breaks, your cameras are useless.
If a camera breaks, unless you can buy another Zmodo camera, you lose that camera and can't replace it.
Too many uncertainties for me so I've asked eBuyer to cancel my order.
If however you are after a fairly decent standalone system and are willing to take the risk that the whole system could be obsolete if the NVR develops a fault then it is a reasonable buy.

Great price - ordered (although I have 4 DVRs and 20 cameras now .....)
Maybe time for multiple redundant CCTV networks ........
Don't expect this to work with any other cameras or the cameras to work with any other NVRs without the supplied NVR being involved .......
Still a good price for a standalone system for most people.

4M are quite expensive at the moment. Besides that, the old bill aren't worried whether the bad man has shaved that morning.

so does the switch provide the power to the camera as i thought most routers/switches do not support PoE devices? CCTV system are new to me so unsure about their setup. appreciate any knowledge on this

Yes, one lead only from the box to the camera. There's a few decent youtube videos that show unboxing and set up of these systems. Although it seems incredibly simple.

Looks like a pretty non standard system set up. The cameras use sPOE and only two lines in the CAT5 for "data transmission"
