FAQ-
What is a Sim Only? A sim only is a pay monthly contract that comes without a handset. They are usually sold with a 12 month or 1 month minimum term. They are great if you already have a phone and don't need to get another one.
Which sim will work in my phone? You need to make sure that the SIM you are buying will work in your phone. If your phone is locked to a certain network then you can only use a sim card from that network. You will need to unlock the phone to be able to use another networks sim card. A phone can be unlocked by the original network provider or via a third party.
What size SIM card will I need? There are 3 different types of SIM cards in use.
Nano SIM: These are the smallest SIM cards and are used in phones such as the iPhone 5S/6/6S or Galaxy S6/S7/Edge+ Micro SIM: These are the second smallest SIM cards and are seen in a huge number of phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 or Moto G Standard SIM: These are the bigger SIM cards that work in older phones or low end handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy Ace You can check in the manual which SIM card your phone takes.
How do i transfer my number? You need a PAC from your existing network. Once you have that you can sign up to the new network. Once your new sim card arrives you can transfer your number by ringing the new network customer service team and giving them your PAC and existing number. This process takes 24 hours. You will be able to use both your old sim on your current number and your new sim on a temporary number. Once the PAC has been taken and used by the new network your old sim card will stop working within 24 hours and the number will move over to the new sim card from the new network.
How do i know if a network will work in my area? Use a mixture of the online coverage checker and a pay as you go sim to assess if the coverage is good in your area. Also ask friends and family if they use the network and what they think of it. If you can't do this then sign up for the 1 month contract only. Never sign a 12 month contract without checking signal first.
There are 4 major networks in the UK. EE, Three, Vodafone and O2. So you only need to get a sim card from them to check your coverage.
How do i get cashback? If you buy the Sim only through Quidco and TopCashback you will be eligible for a small sum of money to be paid into your bank account or PayPal.
To do this use the links above to go to the Quidco/TCB website. Find the network and sim only you want to buy on the Quidco/TCB website and it should display a cashback amount next to it. Click the link and it'll take you to the network website where you can buy the sim only deal. This will then track on your Quidco/TCB account and be payable soon after.
Are there any hidden costs? Calls to landline (01,02,03) and Mobiles (07) are part of your inclusive minutes allowance. If you call numbers starting 08,09 or 070, charges may differ between providers, so it is best to look at the specific rates before choosing your sim. These charges apply to any other premium numbers as well as international numbers. Voicemail may cost. EE and O2 also increase the price of their contracts every 12 months by RPI. This usually happens in March so you can expect to see your price plan increase by a small amount in March 2017. Roaming is usually very expensive too. You can normally buy a bundle from your network to save on these costs.
SMS is free in your allowance. Picture messaging is not free. See the networks individual policies for data charges over your limit and other charges not covered above.
What does Unlimited mean? A number of networks advertise “Unlimited” Minutes/texts and data. Usually there is a fair use policy attached to this term or traffic shaping to reduce your speed once you go over a soft limit. It is important to check this if you are a heavy user.
Do i get a better deal as an existing customer/for buying a second sim? Possibly, speak to your networks CS team or retention's dept and see what offers they have. Can i get it cheaper if i work for.../am a student? Yes! Please see below :>

Overheard Vodafone customer adviser saying to customer that she can discount if she works for nhs or knows someone who works for nhs. All she needed was an email address. Not sure how much of a discount!
