I have spent years following various forums and websites regarding cheap flights and you have to be the first person ever to say skipping the first leg actually works. The general rule is if you miss the first leg then the rest of the flight will be cancelled. This is because BA knows people will do just that if not. What did the check in staff say at Heathrow? I'm curious how you managed to blag it. My understanding was not showing up for your first leg triggers an automatic cancellation. No exemptions. The return flight is slightly different especially if you need to change airports in London. Still risky though for the reasons others have mentioned.

Tempting but I have an outstanding speeding fine from 2013 that will probably prevent my entry into OZ.

If I'd not just booked my summer holiday in Cornwall I'd be on this. Weekend in Stockholm and 3 weeks in Oz! Brilliant.

BA have a few good deals, they had a 1st class flight to California on the other day for something like £1400. Ridiculously low for 1st and well worth doing at least once in my book, you would normally be lucky to get business at that rate.
