If you need it to be small and have a 4k / UHD TV this one might be worth getting, otherwise just for gaming, get a 1tb regular Xbone.

Not really, the original Xbox one retails at around £200, it's only £50 more. There's loads of arguments as to why you should and shouldn't buy the slim version but this one in particular the 500gb isn't widely available in the UK atm so might as well make the most of it. I'd rather save £100 cuz the 2tb is £350 and is mainly the only one available

Smaller unit and bigger screen has always been the way forward. Just watch total recall

Is this the Xbox One 2 - the one thats as powerful as the PS4 so you can play VR games - or is this still going to be obsolete in a few months time?

It's not the Scorpio, that's at least 12 months away yet

Is just a slimmer version tbh really with a 4k blu ray player the 4k console is coming out late next yr which I'm assuming I'll be expensive and also you'll need a 4k TV/monitor for you to take full advantage

No, it'll not be obsolete for years. Just like they continued to make the 360 for years after the Xbox One came out.
Of course if you want to wait another 18 months on Scorpio and pay probably £500+ for a console you wont have any games for then thats your perrogative.

I heard graphics might be a little better then original xbox one as it also supports hdr.

Potentially less dynamic resolution scaling and more consistent frame rates.

You will need a 2016 4k hdr ready tv to even get the benefits.
