O2 new sim only deal - £20 for 20Gb 4G data + Unlimited Minutes/Texts.

Update:
TopCashback and Quidco have new offers... unfortunately none of them is paying £55 like before.
On Quidco you can get now £50 for this contract.
On TopCashback you can get £49.50.

And of course... if you are on O2... you will have access to O2 Priority that always have freebies and discounts, O2 Wifi, O2 Chat for cheap international calls, and so on...

------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions frequently asked by Op's.

- I have received my simcard, I am on a 4G coverage area, I am using a 4G Compatible phone (supporting LTE band 20 - 800Mhz), but my phone can't get the 4G signal, what can I do?

Apparently some of the sims that were sent out were not configured to work with 4G on Android/iPhones, and were compatible with Blackberry instead.
If you are not able to get the 4G signal straight away, please contact O2 (calling them or via webchat) and check if you have the correct data profile assigned to you. If not they will change it and at midnight of that day the new profile will kick in. After that all you need is to restart your phone and you should get the sweet sweet LTE signal straight away.

- What is TCB?
TCB means TopCashback... and to access it you just need to go to http://www.topcashback.co.uk.

Can you explain the deal?
With O2: The deal is £20/Month x 12 Months = £240 (in a year) That would be how much you would pay in a year for taking this contract (and that's the bill you will get every month).

But if you factor in the cashback that you will get from TopCashback or Quidco...

Quidco:
20 x 12 = £240 (price for 1 year without cashback)
240 - 50 = 190 (1 yr price - cashback)
190/12 = 15.83 (factoring in the cashback, still the bill you will get every month will be £20)

Top Cashback:
20 x 12 = £240 (price for 1 year without cashback)
240 - 50 = 190.5 (1 yr price - cashback)
190.5/12 = 15.88 (factoring in the cashback, still the bill you will get every month will be £20)

Will O2 actually give me money/cashback?
Well... the cashback is actually not given to you directly by O2 but via TopCashback (I am sure that O2 pays them though).

Is this a 30 day contract?
No, it's a 12 Months contract.

I know someone that works at O2, can I use their Friends and Family discount with this deal?
Yes you can and that will make this even a better deal!

Can I upgrade my contract and move to the 20Gb/20£ deal?
Depends on your situation... so it's better to contact the customer service, but if you do this you will not get the Cashback from TCB.

No... it's simple Maths... £20 x 12 Months = £240 That would be how much you would pay in a year for taking this contract (and that's the bill you will get every month).

But if you factor in the £55 cashback that you will get from TCB... you do £240 - £55 = £185 that's how much you will end up paying for this deal in a year... if you divide that for the 12 Months... £15.42.

I agree about staying away from Vodafone. They have terrible customer service and they have terrible network coverage overall. I think the latest survey confirmed this (will try and find the source)

Remember to always check first with a PAYG sim as it depends on where you live/work. Even the online coverage checkers aren't very honest. O2 is the only network that works where I live. The other networks just blame the trees and the buildings for the poor coverage

The cashback will only be payable once, but the deal you have posted is a 12 month deal - therefore the first month is £16.25 but the subsequent 11 months are at £20?

Would kind of help if you made reference to such via both your Deal Title, &/or your Deal Description, etc?.

Instead of given the impression in both that its perhaps a one-off £20 SIM Deal/30 Day Rolling Contract Deal and stuff, or whatever .....

Between what you've described in your initial Post and what you've now just explained via the first Post is a massive difference.

Why have you not changed this to say topcashback are not paying out ?
ublewit
9 Jun 16 4 #4
No.

12 months @ £20 = £240

Less £55 Cashback = £185 total yearly cost.

Divide this by 12 and it works out at £15.42 per month actual cost to you. (Although your direct debit would still be £20 per month remember.)

Ah I see, I just read your post and it indicated the monthly cost would decrease....had I of thought about it a little more I should have realised that £50 odd cash back on a £20 spend does not reduce to £15... my bad haha!

Think I need to go get myself a coffee  my apologies - I've seen many SIMO posts before that only take into account the first month and people buy in to the single month price rather than looking at overall period.

I have been waiting for this deal for a few days now because I've heard that it would come out and I am looking forward to leave Three. I will also have the Friends and Family Discount from a friend... I am existing sim only o2 subscriber. My term is up and I'm now on a rolling contract. If I take out this deal on a new contract, is there a chance my cashback will be declined? Will I not be considered a new customer?

My plan is then to transfer my existing number to this new contract, and shut down the old contract

Vodafonica backhaul Cornerstone is way behind its 98% indoor coverage through merging sites - last August at 63%

If you want 2G coverage for calls and texts go o2.

If you want a 2/3G signal at hom/work if you have a JCDecaux marked bus stop outside the door you should be ok
as 1800/2600mhz transmitters should be installed.

digifreak

Yes you can tether with O2 to the full extent of your data. Regarding who is a better network it has a lot to do with the area you live on. In my area O2 is excellent... While three is a bit meh.

Hi All,
My rubbish £11 a month Three contract is running out in a month (1GB 4g data, a few thousand texts and 300mins), Is this the best sim-only deal on the market for around £15/month? 20gb seems incredible! If I Call Three to cancel, can I get a deal anywhere close to this (I like their calls and data abroad feature)?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You register with TopCashBack.co.uk.

You then search for the O2 offer on the TopCashBack site.

You click on the button and you are then automatically transferred to the O2 site. Once you sign up for the sim, O2 will pay a cashback of £55 to topcashback who will then pay this into your topcashback account after a certain time. (Not sure how long it is right now).

Once the cashback appears in your topcashback account, you can then either withdraw it to your bank account or get vouchers for Amazon, Argos and many other places.

So although it's O2 who the phone contract is with, it is topcashback (TCB) who you will get the cashback from.

I hope that's clear but if not just ask again and we'll try to clarify some more.

I just upgraded seeing the option but now uncertain if it will confirm cashback, I thought it was for new SIM only?
computerdog
9 Jun 16 #53
Life would so much easier if that were the case.

In my experience (you guys can correct me if I'm wrong) when you order a new sim they give you a seven day cooling off period BUT that's only if you dont use the sim.

The minute you insert the sim that's it, your contract starts and you can't cancel.

Hence why you should just grab a PAYG sim for the network you are thinking of trying.

Never ever go with O2 again.... utterly appalling CS. Took me nearly 3 months to leave them, with dozens of requests for additional payments, after being positively assured that; I was in credit, my account was closed, no more payments will be needed, you are in credit as we have credited you..... etc. never-ending rubbish.
In the end only a formal complaint, which I had to follow-up! actually closed the account.

Never again for me ... even if they paid me (which apparently they said they had!!! )

This contract gives you unlimited calls and texts, so you wouldn't get any nasty surprises there unless you make any calls to premium rate numbers (0845 etc) or international calls. Subscription based texts (ie those naughty little beggars that sign you up to them when you enter tv competitions etc). Suin: Most likely you can get the 20Gb for £20 deal on O2 but definitely not the Cashback as the cashback is only for new SIMO customers.
Still if you think that it's a good price.... 20Gb + Unlimited Minutes + Texts for £20, I would advise you to actually contact O2 customer service and see what can they do.

Vodafone has 1 star (score 0.4) - https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.vodafone.co.uk

But then... the MVNO's that use the same network...

20GB? Fancy another 10GB for not much more? Three are offering half price for 6 months on 12month SIMO tariffs at the moment which makes this deal sound not quite as attractive.

30GB all calls and texts over 12 months = £270
Quidco doing £50 cashback
Total over 12 months including cashback = £220
Works out at £18.33 a month

Well... as I've said to the other OP... the best way to do it is to actually call the O2 customer service team or use their online chat to check.
For instance the other OP had his O2 contract done with CarphoneWarehouse and he could not change it because he was still in contract with them... so this is a case by case analysis that I don't have any way to do it.

digifreak
10 Jun 16 #153
Well... the difference will be £2.50/Month... it's about saving £55 in two years... so it's more a question of asking yourself "Can I afford to pay now the phone entirely?", and "is £55 over two years worth the fuss?" Hot deal.

I'm currently with O2 on a £28 amonth contract with only 1gb of data, I'm tempted to cancel that contract (ay a cost of £92 and get this. I've used the O2 webchat and they won't offer anything like as good a deal as this.

With about 5 months of payments to go including cashback I'd save a little bit of money but then have a great contract going forward. The only problem is I'll have to get a new number.

Can anyone else see any positives or negatives in my thinking?

I've signed up for the sim only - then next week (after my next bill date on my monthly contract) I'm going to ring and cancel and pay off the 4 months - at that point I was told they'd then be able to transfer my number to my new sim only contract. If they can't I'll be pretty annoyed because I've had my number for over 15 years!!

10 Jun 16 #162
I was just going to take this and move from Voda, been with them 6 years.

Voda did their best to match it:

20gb 4G.
Unltd sms/calls.
4gb roaming data across europe.
12 months Spotify/Sky Sports/Sky Now.
12 month term.
£22.20

They then added £24 bill credit to effectively make my monthly £20.20, decided to go with that purely for convenience and whilst it's overall more expensive given the Quidco I felt the Spotify offsets that at a £10 saving a month, I use it already.

Thanks Op.

Need some help guys.

So I'm with EE and my main concern with them is network coverage. There are times when it poses no problem at all but then there are times where I either have no network or people say they try to call me but it goes straight to voicemail. One other annoying thing is when I send more than one text the recipient says that it comes in a muddled order sometimes.

I called EE today (I am on a sim only contract with them) and asked whether they could better it. They said they could match it with free EU roaming. I stupidly forgot to mention the cashback.

So I dont know whether to stick with EE or go to O2. Any advice is much appreciated.

Forgot to mention, my current contract is 12 quid a month which consists of unlimited texts, unlimited 3g internet and 100 mins (noway near enough)

I had trouble getting 4g on mine. I reset the APNs to default. Rebooted. Took sim card out. Rebooted. then it just started working. Also, I removed the case I had on it. As I noticed it was affecting the signal.

Oh and make sure you've not got the blackberry bolt-on. Download the My o2 app and it will tell you.

incorrect. I was already on o2 and they transferred my number to the new sim when I paid my device credit agreement off and closed the old account. ok so ive spoken to quidco cs and they confirm the offer is for new customers only. the only problem is the website does a **** job of explaining this. under the "Earn up to £90 cashback" offer on this page http://www.quidco.com/o2-mobiles/
if you click terms and conditions you are only shown this text

under which is the blue get cashback button and click on this and you go off to the external o2 site. However if you scroll down to the bottom of the offer page you will see the terms and conditions as listed above. THIS IS VERY EASY TO MISS Most users will goto the quidco site and click get cashback and check the terms which i did. This is very poor design. Many people will not see the new customers bit :/

ive complained to quidco and the guy said they have had trouble with this sort of thing before. He told me they will wait and see if o2 honor it, if not they will investigate further. i have taken a video of the site to prove the above is true.

This is a solid deal, I was paying the same price for 3GB (although only on a 30 day agreement), so thanks for pointing it out, I've just upgraded. Vodafone did the same deal a few months back, but the end of the contract it went up to £40 odd quid a month or something like that - although that was not mentioned anywhere on the website, even when you selected to buy the deal, I only found out as it was mentioned on forums. I walked away from that as I'm not willing to trust a company who aren't upfront about their deals. Checked with O2 and this goes to a 30 day contract after 12 months, but the price stays the same, which is how it should be!
mdadnan
27 Jun 16 #389
You should put a reminder to check with them on the new pricing just before the contract ends. I ditched O2 for poor 4G coverage, found it slower than Vodafone. Being their existing customer got 10GB for £14 a month for my wife and same deal for myself. They also gave me one month free for the new contract.

Also don't forget... if you are on a good coverage area, have a 4G compatible phone (band 20 LTE) and you can only get 3G... talk with the Customer Service because most likely you have the blackberry bolt on activated on your account. Ask them to deactivate it... restart your phone and bingo!

Following the expiry of this deal there are a few new sim only deals in its place running from today til 27th July (all 12 month contracts)

25gb + unlimited texts/mins for £25

10gb (previously 2gb) + unlimited texts/mins for £18

And for the infrequent users...
500mb + 500mins + unlimited texts for £9.50 (was £12.50)

Do they have any decent 30 day contracts? Ned to top up £ to get a pac code of a number i have bought but cant get a pac code till i activate it
missy89
7 Jul 16 #399
Is it a pay as you go sim? If you top up by £10 to activate it and then take out a sim-only contract on o2 you can port the number over and the £10 will sit as a credit on your o2 account, so your first direct debit will be deducted from that credit.

7 Jul 16 #400
Yes its a payg sim. Bought from ebay a good number. Dont really want to stay on o2 i bought it under the impression that i can port it out straight away
missy89
7 Jul 16 #401
Ah okay. In that case, the only thing you can do is top it up by the £10 to activate it and take the loss when you port it over to whatever network you've chosen, or use up the remaining credit using Charge To Mobile - you can use it on the Google Play Store, for credit on the iTunes Store, and on the PlayStation Network and Spotify

I got this sim but when out and about takes forever to load. Old o2 sim used to load easily but only had 1gb data. Anyone else had this problem. Thanks

I also signed up to this deal on o2 and then cancelled it. Awful coverage and no 3g connection whilst on calls! did you try ee ir 3 and if so, are they any better?
AngelP
20 Jul 16 #405
I got this deal with o2, but such bad 3g coverage, 4g fine but can't always use it as it drains ny phone battery too fast, call drops and no 3g connection whilst on a normal phone call! Utterly bad signal and coverage, that I cancelled my contract in the 14 days. Was with Virgin before and was very good! Hope the better networks cone up with some good deals.

Where do I look
Jools011

You should get an email from Quidco or check on your account to see if it's been confirmed and you can then transfer into your bank account

Yeap I got my £50 too confirmed.

TCB on the other site (for the first sim I bought)... has it postponed til after Christmas because it didn't tracked.
I stopped using TCB after this incident and I will keep not using it no matter what.

Yes, I found mine, I used a diff email as I'd gotten a sim from o2 through TCB then had to cancel as they not paying out, then got another one from o2 through quidco and had to use dif email. What a lota trouble! Never again with TCB
