If the 'Hive' is like the 'Nest' it works well especially with a smartphone, I dont have one but a very close relative does.

I love my Hive - just for the pure control (and knowledge of inside temperature whilst away). It looks very neat too.
I didn't buy it to save money. I work away often and this allows me to turn on the heating before I get home. Very convenient.

It depends on your current setup really. I had a wireless thermostat already in place with its own reciever right next to the boiler, so was just a case of swapping the recievers over. If you have a wired thermostat currently, then the reciever needs to replace this thermostat, sited either where it is now, or by tracing tracing/cutting the cable back so you can site it nicely out the way near the boiler. Ultimately it just requires a basic understanding of electrics & wiring diagrams. If you unsure about it, get an electrician in, its only an hours job at max.
