Hollywood's adaptation of the novels chose to have a person of a certain heritage/colour and other may choose to have another. JKR herself states this and the fact she is happy with a directors choice of 'black' or 'white' actors playing the part - so long as character is true to the script. One of the key tenants if the book is that its not the difference of how we look that makes us good or bad, but our actions, words and character.

I'm not against any ethnicity in particular, but there is this from chapter 4 of The Prisoner of Azkaban:

However I stand by what I wrote and I will reiterate that to sum up a whole piece of work as "​​It's the script......the one where Hermione completely changes her skin colour." does a disservice to the message of not just the book and play, but also the wishes of the author. A more apt description when asked what this deal relates to would have possibly been: 'it's the script, based on the new show' - full stop. To summarise a whole piece of work based on an actors skin colour is akin, in my opinion, to summarising all the works of Shakespeare as the one where people wear old fashioned clothes or speak in odd verse - it does nothing to describe the narrative, characters personalities or production value or context of its production.

I'm not going to get involved in a back and forth discussion on here (my life, as I hope everyone's is busy with more relevant day to day tasks) but I did want to do you the courtesy of replying to your post - based on my post (namely to clarify to that my intension was not for you to get the impression that I think you are racist, because I do not think that.).

Well I don't know about the illustrations, but on the front cover of the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione has the same skin tone as Harry. A book that came out before the movies.

I find the whole argument silly, I think it's obvious JKR intended Hermione to be white, but at the end of the day she doesn't care what the skin tone is as long as the charactor is done justice.
