In other news, we've had two years from our bean to cup machine now, (De Longhi Magnifica) and it's not missed a beat. Vs the cost of pods it must've paid for itself a time or two over already.

Are these actually coffee beans? If they are not and they are ground coffee beans, then it should mention that somewhere, coffee grinding machines used to be common, but if you haven't got one, then you'll have to pay at least £20 for one.
Looking at the description, it seems that they are ground coffee beans, but, suitable for all methods of coffee making, how come? The size of the grind should be different for the different methods

They're beans. Not ground coffee. Not sure why you'd think they weren't beans, but you will need a bean to cup machine or a grinder.
