I'm currently searching for a laptop with at least i3, 1TB and 8GB of ram for under £300.
I can't find one better than this.

Not much of a performance difference between the low power I3 and low power I5 though. I'd personally go for more ram and bigger hdd

Had one of these delivered today for my father in law, first impressions are good nice little machine, the only downside is it feels cheap.

Bought this for someone last week. It's not bad, not amazing build quality but okay. Spec is good for the money, stick an SSD in there and you're laughing
Have some heat OP, wishing I'd posted this myself now.

Also, do a fresh install of Windows, there's the usual new build bloat to deal with otherwise...

I've got one of these, not a bad laptop worth an extra £30 to put a solid state drive in thou. I used this guide - https://youtu.be/ey6KxAly9cQ very easy and straight forward

I want the 1tb storage though......a 1tb SSD would be rather expensive....

You could always pop the DVD tray out, buy an SSD and a tray caddy, then put them back in in place of the DVD. Then you shift the Operating System to the SSD. You'll have a fast system, with your 1TB for the loss of a DVD that you'll rarely use.
