I'm currently searching for a laptop with at least i3, 1TB and 8GB of ram for under £300.
I can't find one better than this.

Not much of a performance difference between the low power I3 and low power I5 though. I'd personally go for more ram and bigger hdd

Had one of these delivered today for my father in law, first impressions are good nice little machine, the only downside is it feels cheap.

Bought this for someone last week. It's not bad, not amazing build quality but okay. Spec is good for the money, stick an SSD in there and you're laughing
Have some heat OP, wishing I'd posted this myself now.

Also, do a fresh install of Windows, there's the usual new build bloat to deal with otherwise...

I've got one of these, not a bad laptop worth an extra £30 to put a solid state drive in thou. I used this guide - https://youtu.be/ey6KxAly9cQ very easy and straight forward

I want the 1tb storage though......a 1tb SSD would be rather expensive....

You could always pop the DVD tray out, buy an SSD and a tray caddy, then put them back in in place of the DVD. Then you shift the Operating System to the SSD. You'll have a fast system, with your 1TB for the loss of a DVD that you'll rarely use.

Or get a cheap USB drive enclosure off eBay for a few quid and stick it in there if you want to use the DVD drive.

I take it your talking about this current post and not another laptop?

Lately there was a post from dabs (bt.com) offering the 4gb model with 128gb ssd for £250. Even though this deal is good, I'd wait with that if not urgent, the one with SSD is likely to be on discount soon again somewhere!

Btw the laptop is great. Quite quick considering only an i3 processor. Much quicker than those **** celeron or amd processors that last 8+ hours on battery. The touchpad and keyboard is great too, the only letdown is the low res. display and bad viewing angles. You can't have everything for sub £300 though!

It shouldn't be a problem putting more ram in and a bigger hdd

I'd say there would be quite a noticeable difference, the i5 can turbo boost its frequency and is slightly more energy efficient. the i5's Passmark score is 25% higher than the i3's. well worth the extra bit of dosh I reckon!
