This is possibly the cheapest I've seen for a Z97 board. Cheaper than a H97 board. I umm and ahhhed a few weeks back when it was above £50 and thought I missed out. At this price I've finally bit.
It's closer to £70 on Amazon but I'm sure they may price match soon. However buying it from ebuyer you can go through Quidco/TCB. My cashback through Quidco tracked straight away.

Would this fit in an NZXT s340 case?
Would it work with an i5 3470 CPU and a R9 285 GPU?

no re i5, that cpu 3rd gen is socket 1155 and this board is for socket 1150 - 4th and 5th gen cpus

@ck12111 you need a Z77 board or B85 board which suit 2nd or 3rd generation processors. Yours is 3rd generation. You will only get these 2nd hand

I have this mobo along with an i5 4670K @4.4GHZ. Cheap and cheerful with no frills, no SLI support only Crossfire. Would recommend though if building on a budget.

26 May 16#8
Nope, you would need to upgrade both the mobo AND the CPU.
Probably not worth it - better to upgrade the GPU if you're mostly after games performance.

How to get amazon to price match this?
A1M
26 May 16#10
Yep the mobo will fit in your case. You have a mid tower which will take a full ATX motherboard (which is what this is).

26 May 16#11
I had this on my watch list on Amazon. They probably won't match it until they have it in stock. The only sellers of this board at the moment are 3rd parties.
When they did price match before it was the £57.99 price which was what the price was on Ebuyer before today.

Wow, thanks for that. Let me just go and get that Time Machine deal from Argos so I can go get it :smiley:

To be honest, you could sell that time machine and then you could buy any mobo for any price XD

Great board for the price but its only DDR3, i'd rather spend the extra 5-10 pounds and get a DDR4 board.
A1M
26 May 161#16
There's a lot of DDR3 still out there. I personally went with this board because I want to transfer my 32GB from my FX6300 system. Even though I've got a non-K i7 this is the cheapest board I could find with 4 DIMM slots on the socket 1150.
Just Wondering

wow this just keeps on getting cheaper , excellent board for the money

I bought a used i5 chip 4570k for 80 on ebay a while ago , works great with my old ddr 3 overclocked and one of these motherboards , DDR4 offers very little difference in performance

"t's closer to £70 on Amazon but I'm sure they may price match soon."
that's an Amazon seller 'ADMI Ltd' . The last 2 Amazon had went for £58 last week (they are showing on back-order for £57.99 and should be REV 1.2 models)
This is a bargain. They were great value hackintosh boards at £70.

T = Further reduced power (35w & typical 2.1GHz)
P = No iGPU
R = Intel Iris graphics

I am a little surprised that Amazon haven't price matched it, yet, though I am not sure how you price match with Amazon, anymore. Do they have eagle-eyed spotters out on places like this? They often price match even when they have no stock but at the moment, with stock expected at the end of this month, they have it for £58. If I remember correctly, they got in relatively little stock, last time around, so perhaps I shouldn't be holding my breath, so to speak.
By which I mean, hot, especially for the spec and because Gigabyte are usually near the top for reliability (though I know some people had problem with faulty memory slots with this model, presumably just a bad production run batch but another reason that I like the ease of returns with Amazon).

You need to get NUS extra card. Just go to NUS extra site, create an account. The card is £13 or so for a year or £33 or so for 3years. Before the card arrives you can start making use of the online discounts, you get a unique code from them you apply to you Amazon account. Discount will always be applied to any purchase you make on Amazon that is eligible for student discount.

Why is the Z97 so cheap? I always see it on offer somewere
b1g1an
27 May 16#33
Because it's outdated. Can't use current processors or ram so it's only of interest to people replacing an existing board, like most above seem to be, or those looking for a cheap build using other bargain bin parts.

I have a 2500k at present starting to get win10 voltage blue screen from overclocking (4ghz) will I see a noticeable upgrade with this paired with a i7 4790k?
A1M
27 May 16#38
I guess it depends what you're using it for. For gaming, this site just processes pure numbers.
Also found this video which compares a 2600k (I know a different CPU but same generation) with a more modern processor.

Would it be better to get an old gen i7 4790, with this mboard, or a new gen i5 6600k, with maybe a z170 pro or something? Thanks

Cheers good site other than gaming performance based on a game not even out yet (battlefield 1)
What would be the 2500k equivalent today (haswell)
mancityfan95 to paulrwarner
27 May 16#42
That video is more down to the power of the gtx 970 compared to the 670 than the processors. The Haswell equivalent of the sandy bridge i5 is either the 4670k or 4690k
I just got my board exactly 24 hours after ordering. Not bad for a 5 day service. For anybody interested, in the box was a manual, installation guide, driver CD, back plate and a sata cable.

Very good price for spec. I prefer Asus though, but could be swayed by that price if I hadn't just built a new system with an Asus Z97M Plus for £74 (which i thought was a bargain).

I think the i7 4790k is the fastest chip for this board but people who are more familiar with the Xeon range may know better.
If you have a Phenom II x6 1100T you can compare the passmark score to the commercial i7 4790K in this link.
Just to make sure it's not Windows that causing the issue.
I had a similar issue with an old laptop but I tracked it down to one of the memory modules which sometime played up.
