You can get Carer’s Credit if you’re caring for someone for at least 20 hours a week. Carer’s Credit is a National Insurance credit that helps with gaps in your National Insurance record. Your State Pension is based on your National Insurance record. Your income, savings or investments won’t affect eligibility for Carer’s Credit.

Edit: It's automatic if you are in receipt of Carer's Allowance. Class 1.
Been available for past 6 years and not really a deal. Better off in 'misc'?

Nope, no need to fill out application form, it's automatic if you already receive carers allowance...

You can still get Class 3 credits even if you don't get Carer's Allowance though. I think it's those that the OP was referring to. You DO need to claim for those.
