I think this was very important information and worth posting to help people out.
Edit---I now realise this is in the wrong section, apologies.
You can get Carer’s Credit if you’re caring for someone for at least 20 hours a week. Carer’s Credit is a National Insurance credit that helps with gaps in your National Insurance record. Your State Pension is based on your National Insurance record. Your income, savings or investments won’t affect eligibility for Carer’s Credit.

Thanks for the Info.
This is not commonly known to many, as most Carers are too Busy to Investigate everything.
Also the Govt is not too pro-active in informing the people that need to know ........ Quelle Surprise
Ignore the useless comments and snipes as this is very useful for many people that need the NI Credit.
e.g. I had a fully paid up 30 year NI contribtion that WAS enough for a Full Pension until the govt changed everything.
As a Full Time Carer I cannot just go out and get a job to top up my NI Contributions (as the Govt seems to think), yet it was not made clear that I would get ANY credit for being a Carer.

As a further add on, if you work abroad and not in the UK social security system, you can pay 2nd class stamp (about £500 per year) to maintain your UK pension, and some other benefits, noting that you now need 35 qualifying years to get a full UK pension. At around £150 a week I know it's not a huge amount but it's "better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick" as they say, but will provide a useful top up to your other pensions.

One thing that isn't obvious from the gov website is that you can claim carer's credit for someone even if someone else is already getting carer's allowance for that person. So for example in a couple where both parents are caring for an older child (e.g. over 12 so not getting NI credits through child benefit), one parent can claim the carer's allowance and the other parent can still claim carer's credit so they both get credits for state pension.
Another thing is, you can split the 20 hours requirement (which isn't actually checked up on in any way) across two or more people, so you can be caring for 10 hours for one person and 10 hours for another.

I think if you do 35 hours plus caring, and earn less than £100 a week (about) you can get Carers Allowance - and get NI credit. If you do between 20 and 35 hours you need to claim to get NI credits (I don't know if there is an earnings limit)

It WAS 30 years - which NI dept told me I had.
but then Gov changed it to 35 to get full pension..... and that does not mean just 35 years, because anyone who works in public sector will find their 35s of working and paying NI are not 35 years of NI....because a years worth of NI deductions from public sector workers doesn't count for a full year.
And then of course there is .....exactly what a Full Pension actually means.....?

For the new state pension it's 35 years- gov.uk seems to be out of date or the link refers to the old state pension. http://www.which.co.uk/money/retirement/guides/state-pension-explained/how-do-i-qualify-for-state-pension/ I had 30 years when I stopped working then the government moved the goalposts (and the retirement age!) but I then qualified for carers' allowance. Not everyone gets automatic NI credits so check on gov.uk. I also qualify through receiving child benefit and think both are being credited.
