Aliexpress is just a Chinese eBay equivalent with good sellers and bad. I've bought several devices from sellers there - phones, tablets, mini-PCs - with absolutely no problems whatsoever.
The obvious trick is to only buy from sellers with very good feedback. If a deal looks to good to be true, chances are that it is.

bought from aliexpress many times and never had a problem tbh..
What a shame looks like Aliexpress is going to be the problem here and not the phone. Would have ordered one otherwise. I have use most of the the Chinese sellers including Gearbest and Focalprice but Aliexpress I will give a miss.
Excellent review below from P C Advisor for anyone who wants to chance it.
looks like a great deal, but reading the reviews on Ali express, not sure I would want to take the chance!

So tempted. Is there a risk of import tax on these? How does it work? Or should i pay extra and stick to a refurbished LG G3 or similar? Clueless here thanks

horrific reviews online. I wonder if it really is that bad... tbh I would never want to find out. such a shame, this is a nice looking phone.

With the advent of Android Pay the absence of NFC is a deal breaker for me. Shame as at that price everything else is there, even finger print unlock.

I think this is the same thing (someone with more phone knowledge will have to say for sure!) from everbuying which while it still doesn't have a perfect rep seems to have a better rep than Aliexpress:
