After leaving Sky earlier this year i have been looking at freesat set top boxes.
The Humax HDR1000S has won several awards and is one of the best Freesat boxes out there, only the newer model out muscles this box.

Freeview = digital tv via aerial
YouView = digital tv via aerial + limited catch up via internet + extra channels if you pay BT or TalkTalk
Freesat = digital tv via satellite, more channels than freeview but some freeview channels missing (C4HD+1 not on freesat)
FreeTime = digital tv via satellite + limited catchup via internet.

I bought the 500Gb version a few weeks ago. The 'refurbs' come with new remotes and all accessories (even a 1m hdmi cable). It works well, plays most media from a usb stick (not H265) and can be setup to work of a single satellite dish (1 lnb) feed. It can then record 1 channel and you can watch a recording or watch a limited set of channels depending on which channel you are recording. The remote can also control a lot of tvs so you only need 1 remote.
Only annoying thing is the guide. When you first press guide you get a now and next list. You have to press right twice to get a full guide.
Overall a great freesatHD recorder.

Not sure what your getting to, it has standby yes.
Best to think of it as a Sky Box in that respect. ie will record when in stand by etc.

The boot up time is very slow, it's not like a sky box, it properly powers down when you turn it off.
I have one, it definitely has a few niggles, like it boots into a halfway page between tv guide and a full picture.
That being said, it's ok.

We have one of these, been reliable for a good couple of years but just the last couple of weeks its been playing up, black screen on ITV1 HD most of the time, need to rescan the channels to get it back but it soon goes again, weird thing is when we rescan all our recordings vanish at the same time. Think ours is fudged so will need to splurge on a new one, Humax have a good rep but this is the 2nd Freesat Humax box we have had go wrong.

Thank you for the code, was going to buy one yesterday but didn't get round to it so you've saved me £14 on the model I was after

Good deal with the code, which also works on the HDR-1010S at the same price. I bought this one previously and without the code. Main difference is colour (white) and Wi-Fi capable as well as Ethernet.
