The new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980/970 is powered by the next generation NVIDIA Maxwell Architecture, giving you incredible performance, unmatched power efficiency, and cutting-edge features.
Maxwell is the most advanced GPU architecture ever made, designed to be the engine of next generation gaming. Inspired by light, it was designed to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. For the first time, gaming GPU's can dynamically render indirect light using the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination technology). Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment.
The GTX 980 is the worlds fastest GPU and the GTX 970 offers the most advanced performance in its class. Each delivers 2x the performance of previous-generation card, bringing new gaming experiences to virtual reality, and ultra resolution 4k displays.
Enable the detail of 4k monitors, on a 1080P display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a high resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.
GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards support tear-free, super-fast NVIDIA G-Sync monitor display technology including 4k. Together, these technologies provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experiences possible.
Get VR Ready with GeForce® GTX.
GeForce® GTX graphics cards provide a powerful next-generation platform for the ultimate immersive virtual reality experience. Immersive VR requires seven times the graphics processing power of traditional 3D apps and games. NVIDIA's unique set of features-such as multi-res shading-mean you get the right level of performance, image quality, and latency to ensure your VR experience is nothing short of amazing.

heat! but the new gpus pascal and polaris BOTH look very promising and so I doubt Nvidia will keep their ridiculous price points. so for now I'm waiting  but plenty of heat for this as this is an awesome card with an awesome price

I don't have one but £260ish for a 970 vs £370 for this, that's a 40% increase for what I believe is 5-10% performance.

at this price point the R9 Nano is the better buy. But seeing how close they perform against each other, we just need this to drop below £350 to be a pretty sweet deal

That's a really good discount. Trouble is, is it worth it over a 970? From the benchmarks I've seen, the difference is often not enough to justify the extra cost.

whena pascal and polaris likely to get released for actual purchase..
im looking at 980s at the moment and thinking is it worth buying or wait....
i did look at 390x cards and just git confused at wildly differing opinions from crap to 980 equivalent.. so sticking with nvidia so i can stream to a shield console in the future

The rumors of a consumer release of a Polaris GPU have been ongoing. One theory is they're holding back to bleed AMD dry, as the market for GPUs stagnates while people "wait to see" the impact Polaris will have on the market. It's the same as any tech story, you could wait forever for the next big thing to drop.
Much prefer the 390x over the 980, much cheaper to.
Honestly would buy neither with the new cards coming out, if you've waited this long, just wait a little longer... if you can't wait, just get a 750ti or if you want to play games in FHD at 60fps then get a radeon 380

I'd probably e-mail to be sure. You should get Tom Clancy's The Division with this, Overclockers are participating in the promotion.
