It's a step up in resolution, but the big difference is that it has a back light. If you need that, then buy the paperwhite. The voyager is better still.

Depending on how you use the Kindle. If you want to read in bed without turning the light on, or on the train/bus, then yes. Otherwise, if you're just gonna use the Kindle at your desk with a desk lamp, you can save you money and buy a previous gen.

Our paperwhite died after 13 months (from Argos) so Amazon didn't want to know. Definitely buy from JL I'd say.

Amazon replaced my kindle after 18 months when I asked them to replace it as a goodwill gesture might be worth another call.

As for those wondering why on earth you would pay all the extra for the Voyage, the processor is much much faster and as such the kindle suffers zero lag when doing anything, also the build is much higher quality and you can squeeze the edges to turn pages etc, its just a better experience, and if you really are into kindles then its worth it.. the OASIS is very high priced at the moment but i'm sure that is an even better experience.

As stated on previous Kindle posts, Amazon don't want to know about problems once 1 year has passed.
My replacement Paperwhite arrived in 2 days from John Lewis, and the extra year over Amazon's warranty is worth it.

Had my Paperwhite for ~3 years now. Brilliant device. Definitely go for the Paperwhite if your budget can stretch to it - the ability to read day or night, in cars, in bed with partner without disturbing them etc. is worth the extra in my opinion!

Totally agree £40 extra is nothing for the extra flexibility. My wife and I each have one and would never go back to the old style (although I do sometimes miss the physical buttons on my really old keyboard model)

If you use the same kindle account on the new one, then all the books that you have on the old one will be available to download.
Even if you don't do it that way, you can use eBook software Calibre to store and move books around.
