Thailand is a great place to start, the Thai people are friendly and helpful and smiley. You'll be fine and have a great time. (came back last week from 3 weeks there..)

Nothing wrong with going to Birmingham airport. Good train links to most civilised places and they have a area you can go for a fag when airside.

Usual ignorant troll comment from someone who's probably never been outside of the M25 in their sad life. It's only an hour on Virgin Trains from London Euston and straight into the terminal. Often quicker to get to from London than the "London" airports.. Friendly staff, hardly any queues and a joy to use.

If you're debating among the various Qatar flight options, try to get a flight that is either on the newest Boeing Dreamliner, or at least the A380, for the best experience.
You can see what plane is flying which route on the Qatar Airways website (book elsewhere as its cheaper though).

Most won't care as long as it gets you there and Qatar have modern fleet. I flown with they in several long haul flights within the last week. In my opinion Qatar are operating on a previous reputation (5* airline skytrak) The a330-300 had shocking leg room along with the dreamliner which my advice would need don't sit by the window because the IFE box takes up most of of your leg room. The service hasn't gone down hill. On two flights didn't receive a menu and when we did there was no choice available so a waste of time really. One of the cabin crew seemed like he couldn't be bothered to serve you. The Boeing 777-er had better leg room but it was tight in seat width (I'm slim to stocky build). In flight entertainment was good though. I will carry on using Qatar but I will chosen the aircraft carefully before I fly with them again. Just don't expect Singapore levels of service.
