Nothing wrong with going to Birmingham airport. Good train links to most civilised places and they have a area you can go for a fag when airside.

Usual ignorant troll comment from someone who's probably never been outside of the M25 in their sad life. It's only an hour on Virgin Trains from London Euston and straight into the terminal. Often quicker to get to from London than the "London" airports.. Friendly staff, hardly any queues and a joy to use.

Very good. Come up with that one yourself?

Birmingham's a great airport. Large enough to have all the amenities you need and with good destinations yet small enough to be personal and a pleasant experience. It's under utilised as an airport.
That's quite good actually. Long haul flight bookings often give just 1% cashback, if you're lucky.

Qatar Airways operate the the brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner out of Birmingham and many of the routes from Doha to Asia are also operated by this type.
While this might sound great, flying a brand new aircraft. Nearly every review I have read from passengers flying in economy, say flying this type of aircraft with Qatar Airways was some of the worst experiences, they have ever flown. Apparently the seats are so narrow, regardless of your size, you have no shoulder room and in-trouble if a fatty is sat next to you!

Yes, the windows are large. But the seats are narrow! I truly believe this airplane is designed for 8 seats accross, not 9. Even 'normal' people will be touching shoulders, not to mention sitting next to someone overweight. The seats do have a large recline which is ok as long as everybody is either upright or is reclined.

The Gold standard for the worst flight available. The cramped seats, coupled with that IFE box combines to place Qatar in a unique class of absolute "never agains". Surely if they had to have such a massive box at your feet, a simple plastic or rubber shield could have been fitted to prevent the agony against your ankle? Passengers sitting at the windows have to climb over two pairs of legs just to go the the loo- just torture. To add a cherry on top of the whole cake, when you arrive at Doha airport, just get shouted at by Gestapo guards to be screened again! You have just got off a flight and must now remove your shoes and belt before you can enter their airport. When we wanted to take off, the 787 had a breakdown and we had to return to the terminal- guess what, you go through the screening process again!

I traveled Doha-Cape Town on 18/09/15 Extremely narrow and uncomfortable seat. No leg room and uncomfortable tight fit. Qatar is a 5 Star airline and I traveled with them many times previously on their other aircraft types and seating configuration in their Airbus and other Boeing aircraft by far more comfortable. The passenger experience in economy class is a real nightmare and strongly suggest Qatar management again review seating configuration in Y-class on the so called 'Dreamliner'. I for one will most certainly no longer choose to fly on the Qatar 787 economy unless the seating situation is reviewed and rectified.

Most won't care as long as it gets you there and Qatar have modern fleet. I flown with they in several long haul flights within the last week. In my opinion Qatar are operating on a previous reputation (5* airline skytrak) The a330-300 had shocking leg room along with the dreamliner which my advice would need don't sit by the window because the IFE box takes up most of of your leg room. The service hasn't gone down hill. On two flights didn't receive a menu and when we did there was no choice available so a waste of time really. One of the cabin crew seemed like he couldn't be bothered to serve you. The Boeing 777-er had better leg room but it was tight in seat width (I'm slim to stocky build). In flight entertainment was good though. I will carry on using Qatar but I will chosen the aircraft carefully before I fly with them again. Just don't expect Singapore levels of service.

I agree. I would suggest booking on local trips, this way you'll get to meet up with other people and share experiences and meet other people.... If you want to of course.

Also some good priced flights with Qatar from edi for anyone this neck of the woods.
In addition, if you're a Santander current account holder, check 'my offers' cashback - I've been offered 8% cashback booking direct with Qatar with makes it cheaper than booking through a 3rd party.

If you're debating among the various Qatar flight options, try to get a flight that is either on the newest Boeing Dreamliner, or at least the A380, for the best experience.
You can see what plane is flying which route on the Qatar Airways website (book elsewhere as its cheaper though).
