Starbucks are doing a 2 month trial offering customers a 50p discount if they bring their own mug/container. If popular it could become permanent.
It's seen as a way of reducing the number of disposable cups that end up on landfill.
The Starbucks near us have their own refillable mugs on sale for a £1 so just 2 users and it pays for itself!! Not applicable on £1 filter coffees.. Previous discount was 25p. Starts 1st April.
I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate !!

Whilst I rather detest starbucks for semi-political 'anti-usa and their subtle hidden agenda in Hollywood films etc' reasons, I do like Costa and Caffe Nero which are both British owned, and also serve pleasant coffee in a nice atmosphere.
The problem with local independent shops is that when away from home, the chains provide a known experience, and there are a number of awful small cafes as well as good ones, so unless I'm sure of the quality of the coffee and ability of the barista, I'd rather stick to a chain until back home.
We have only one decent small coffee shop where I live, two reasonable if stuck, and three awful ones, so not so good for coffee loving tourists.

And why is that? I like my heavily over-roasted, black and oily bean coffee under/over-extracted by heavily trained (at pressing buttons on till) disinterested baristas, tasting of fag ash with splodge of white stuff on top pretending to be microfoam

i disagree , I go to Costa and buy a bucket of coffee which is tasty .I can then go to a small uber trendy independent coffee shop and get a tiny wee cup with average Luke warm coffee for the same price !! Big bad American chain coffee shops all the way for me !! I honestly would love to support small independent cool coffee shops but they never seem to get the basics right .
