Hi-Fi Deal of the Week - Ends tomorrow 28/4/2016 (STILL AVAILABLE 29/04)
Available online and instore.
This looks like a bit of a bargain. Retails from around £185+ but speakers are usually an extra £70.
Cute and compact to look at but with a powerful heart, the Denon Piccolo N4 punches hard.
Small box, big sound
Despite its compact size, the Denon Piccolo manages to punch hard. Using a digital amplifier it packs a power output of 40 watts per channel (at 4 ohms) for a sound that's big enough to fill most rooms. Supplied with two-way speakers, the sound is also life-like, detailed and much more spacious than similarly-priced Bluetooth systems with non-detachable speakers.
Support for high resolution music
With support for FLAC HD/WAV/AIFF/ALAC files at up to 192kHz/24 bit resolution (FLAC), the Piccolo offers the potential for sound quality that greatly exceeds CD. With High Resolution music files now widely available, this is a great way of hearing music at its best.
NFC Bluetooth and AirPlay
With Bluetooth connectivity it's easy to connect compatible devices and stream music wirelessly. Connect up your smartphone, tablet, laptop, PC and Mac and stream your music library or favourite music streaming services with ease. Thanks to NFC (Near Field Communication) connecting via Bluetooth is as simple swiping your compatible device next to the Denon. The Piccolo is also compatible with Apple AirPlay, making it ideal for use with your iPhone or iPad.
DLNA and built-in wi-fi for the complete networking experience
The Piccolo also comes with Wi-Fi, Internet radio and DLNA. Simply connect to your home network using an Ethernet connection or Wi-Fi and you can access thousands of Internet radio sites via vTuner as well as subscription services such as Spotify Connect. DLNA 1.5 compatibility lets you stream from other sources such as your laptop or NAS drive.
USB, Optical, and RCA phono inputs
Up front there's a USB socket. Compatible with most iPods/iPhones, it offers a convenient way of listening to music stored on your iPhone, iPod or USB storage device. Other connections include an RCA phono input and an optical digital input - ideal for connecting your TV, Blu-ray player, games console or other compatible source. Finally, there's a subwoofer output, giving you the chance to significantly boost the sound with your own active subwoofer.
For the little system that thinks big, don't overlook the Denon Piccolo N4.

Would this be better than a dm40 in terms of sound quality?

I'm not an expert but I've just looked and the DM40 gets really good reviews so I'd guess not. That wouldn't be to say that this one is bad, it also gets good reviews. Then there's the difference in price suggests that the DM40 would be better. The main feature of this one is the internet and streaming capabilities. The DM40 doesn't have those.

Refer to my #10. Just to add with regards sound quality, I doubt at these sort of price points on mini systems you are going to get much of a difference. Power output wise the N4 has 10W per channel extra at 40W per channel, and bear in mind the DM40 comes without speakers for around £180. They both have one analogue input with the DM40 having an advantage of having 1 extra (2) digital optical inputs on the rear.
