Definitely don't clamp a carbon frame/seatpost directly. Place some softer stuff around it to even out the pressure.

Ideally buy a metal seatpost of the same size and stick that in when using the stand.

got one of these. v useful for most maintenance, has tray to hold some tools and movable clamp to hold front will still while working on eg front brakes. quite a lot cheaper than other branded stands and decent quality too
