On the MS website, most pictures show it being worn on the inside of the wrist. Is this necessary for heart rate or something? I'd prefer to wear it on the outside. Thanks

Can wear it on either, but it is more accurate on the inside.
Make sure oyu buy a screen protector too...
They do have gorilla glass, but still, it's on the inside of the wrist... it get's clanked a lot!
BTW, v2 much improved over V1, far more comfortable, and improved sleep tracking, and music control.
