Has arrived, it's a band 1 in a refurb type brown box, pre-bagged with a cable. Also looks to have a wet-type screen protector already installed.

They've just sent out my replacement, states Band on the site rather than Band 2, has a new serial number but I suspect it'll sadly be a band 1 judging by the picture

Price matched on Amazon now, so got my 5% student discount too, asked MS if they would allow the 10% discount, they said no as its already discounted.

For what it's worth, on a ten minute run on the treadmill at about 10.2 kph, the Band 2 tracks a mile at the 9:30 minute mark, whereas the treadmill itself will show about 0.96 miles. How it does it, I'm not sure but I was suitably impressed.

Got my Band 2 today. Impressions as follows - Firstly you have to commend MS on the actual packaging, it's first rate and gives you an instant warm feeling you've bought something of quality. The Band itself is slim on the display part but quite chunky on the clasp, which contains the UV sensor, skin sensor and, I believe, the battery. This means it's not ideal whilst typing i.e. it clonks on the desk. I know it's a fitness band, but I want something to replace my watch that I can wear for all occasions. You could wear it the other way round (face on your inner wrist) but then I'd be more concerned about scuffing the face on the desk. I think the actual electronics continue someway either side of the face inside the strap. This means the strap isn't very flexible. I have the medium band but the strap only starts bending beyond the width of my wrists which means there's a bit of a gap. Not too bad for me but I would imagine if you needed the small strap the gap would look excessive.
Functionally the device looks pretty good so far with plenty of features. Email notification etc is particularly good. Virtually no instructions supplied but I guess it would be difficult to keep these up to date as the first thing the device did was perform an update. Plenty of info on-line though. There doesn't seem an option to calibrate the distance traveled against steps measured. A quick Google though and the general feeling is that this is automatic if you let it use the GPS for a while. Well that's fine assuming you're not exercising on a treadmill!
If anybody wants to ask me any questions about it, I'll try and help.

The rubber has stripped off the battery of mine after three months. Raised a service request last Thurs, sent via UPS on Friday and received in Germany yesterday, albeit no update on the MS site.
Was hoping for a possible band 2 replacement given they ask for the charger cable to be sent back too, will report back.

The app on Android is swifter, less laggy, quicker to sync.

Can you expand on that? My son has a Nokia 920 and hasn't said anything isn't working. What works better?

We sent our band 2 back as they have a common fault with the charging of the batteries. So be aware of this check out there Facebook and Microsoft website for the reviews and complaints. We have now pre ordered the new Fitbit that does the same.

Can anyone vouch for the heart rate monitor?
I was in a few different currys, and each one on display was showing fluctuating heart rates between 65-72, WITHOUT being on a wrist...

Quite happy with mine. It seems accurate when I've taken my pulse, too.

It works off light reflection so they can get a reading from lights when not attached to a wrist it's a common problem with all smart watches. When it's on your wrist it's dark and the only lights it picks up are the flashing green ones so it gets a correct reading

On the MS website, most pictures show it being worn on the inside of the wrist. Is this necessary for heart rate or something? I'd prefer to wear it on the outside. Thanks

Can wear it on either, but it is more accurate on the inside.
Make sure oyu buy a screen protector too...
They do have gorilla glass, but still, it's on the inside of the wrist... it get's clanked a lot!
BTW, v2 much improved over V1, far more comfortable, and improved sleep tracking, and music control.
