Is this locked or unlocked EE phone? I have bad experience with EE pay as you go sim cards when they block incoming calls as soon as the credit is finished and ask you to buy more credit before restoring the free incoming calls.

ALL networks do this. In EE's case, you need to make a CHARGEABLE call every 90 days or your number is disconnected.
It's perfectly reasonable really. Why should you be allowed to use the mobile telco's network infrastructure for free, when everyone else is paying for it?

Funny you should say that. Until recently I used a mobile phone locked to EE, their cheap Rook smart phone. I spoke to Life who told me there was a 50/50 chance. Rather than transfer my number over, they said, have the Life sim, try it then if OK we will transfer your number over, it worked and they did.
