No I don't work at RS but couldn't resist posting another good deal for a cracking little system. £199 was a good price but even better value at £179.

What! No cinema experience? Wouldn't everyone miss the Pearl & Dean theme? Papapapapapapapa- papapah! I suppose we could always sing it to the TV, but it's just not the same. And, as for cds you can't chuck a download out of the window when you find you hate it. Suppose you're right, though. Sigh. Pass the popcorn.

No, it is an amplifier with an integral CD Player. Like most people these days they just do not have any comprehension of what an amplifier is and stream compressed crap through crap.

I love my DM39. Don't be put off by the "poor features". I've got a Chromecast audio connected to it via optical cable, and it sounds wonderful.

these things have been winning awards for generations! Just be aware you need to buy decent speakers to make it sing.

Agreed. RS sometimes have better deals packaged with speakers but if it's just the main unit needed it's a good deal. Only drawback I can see is possibly a weak cd tray assembly but judging by the usual comments on here cds belong in the graveyard along with watching a film in the cinema in 2D instead of at home on blu-ray.

Does not look to be 5.1 surround sound either.

I doubt it, I think this was only released in 2015.

I remember them selling 5.1 midi systems back in the 80s - the heydays of mini/ midi systems. The closest thing I think you'll get to it now are the "home cinema in a box" type systems made by Sony, Panasonic etc.

Great price. Had the DM37 for about 5 years now and it's awesome - may have to do a cheeky upgrade

I certainly don't...I remember surround sound extension speakers to midi systems, but most certainly no 5.1 systems...pro logic at best. Cannot recall anything being 5.1 until late 90s when you started to see AC3 bitstream connections.

I don't see the appeal. It's just a CD player isn't it? The spec list looks pretty skeletal. What am I missing?
