No I don't work at RS but couldn't resist posting another good deal for a cracking little system. £199 was a good price but even better value at £179.

What! No cinema experience? Wouldn't everyone miss the Pearl & Dean theme? Papapapapapapapa- papapah! I suppose we could always sing it to the TV, but it's just not the same. And, as for cds you can't chuck a download out of the window when you find you hate it. Suppose you're right, though. Sigh. Pass the popcorn.

Oh your getting technical matey. You could ask one of the lads on here or ask the Richer sounds team. Ps RS might strike you a special deal with the speakers and dm40

Ok will take a look - can find them for 145 EUR a pair. Is there a way that I can have them paired to my TV (via a HTPC - 3.5mm output) and wireless music system (Chromecast audio) without changing plugs each time?

£280 for DM40 and Dali Picos is a very good price. I would definitely get that. It will be a beautiful setup. I'm sure your brother will be very happy with it. The difference in price for me between Picos and Senzor 1 was only £35 but £70 extra it's not worth it.

My brother has two options.
DM40 and Picos - £279.99 (price match)
DM40 and Zensor 1 - £349.99
Which one would you go for?

Just got an open box return for £152.96, including the 10% off with free VIP membership. It's well worth checking the clearance section of the site to see if your local store has one - the first four I tried all had at least one.

What are the dimensions of your bedroom? I bought the Dali Senzor 1 a few days ago and I really like them. Because I was looking for speakers for my computer desk first I tested the Pico ones. I think they sound amazing for their size but because my room is 5m x4m I decided to get the Senzor 1. The difference in price was only £35 too. I also bought this little amp to power them Gemtune SMSL SA-50. The amp I got it for £49 from Flubit. Very happy with this setup. The sound quality is very good. You can find the Dali Senzor 1 listed on avforums classifieds for only £120. They look in very good condition and I would definitely get them if Richer Sounds wouldn't charge me 10% restocking fee.

Any experts recommend a good set of bookshelf speakers? Looking at the Dali Pico's at the moment. I think the Zensor 1's are too big for a small bedroom.

I've got DM39 linked to my iMac and a chrome cast with some Mission MX1s. Annoyingly pre chrome cast I bought a pioneer xc hm81 amp with AirPlay, network streaming the lot. Never sounded right with the missions so I've ended up buying some KEF Q100s and matches well. Annoyingly, now use chrome cast linked to both anyway I would have stuck with DM39 and MX1 and saved £500+ quid as no need for AirPlay etc..ah well! Your choice is a great...I tried Z1 and a few others but the Mission suited my tastes as like rock, hip hop and, dance and 90s indi. The Z1 are better for acoustic, jazz and vocal stuff but MX1s were better for me...nice thing is unlike a Sonos this amp and different set of speakers best the **** out of a system you don't choose yourself and all it takes is a £15 chrome cast audio to make them smart!

As someone already said you can add on a third party unit to add streaming audio. This is the best sounding unit for the money EVER. Nothing else can come anywhere and I mean ANYWHERE close to the sound quality and quantity of this unit. It has a superb amp which delivers a true high current of pure sound which will knock any 100 watt mini system out of the water. TOTAL BARGAIN which could easily sell for about £500

Same views from me. But I use an O2 Joggler repurposed to run Squeezeplay so stream all my music and radio through this. Don't think I've ever used the CD player more than a couple of times.

Another fan here, had the DM38 for about 4 years and love it, tempted to upgrade just for the optical input...
I dont think I have used the CD more than a half dozen times since I bought it, have a thumb memory stick thingy in the front usb port with pretty much all my collection on it ( had an ipod classic plugged in the same for a while ,also worked great), and a chromecast connected thru my tv to it via RCA (hence would like optical) for listening to google music and youtube.... love it............
But used to listen to planet rock etc via the DAB radio but DAB seems to be dying as the quality is being slowly downgraded (planet rock is now mono I kid you not) so tend to listen to internet radio thru it now.............
I have the DM30, very happy. Just bought one of the DM40 from RS, not opened it yet however.
even since the DM37 there are few nice upgrades. 2 optical in ports being the highlight (1 on the DM39), so I can run my TV sound through the optical plus one other source, probably my Apple TV box

I can appreciate that not everyone has the room for full size Hi-Fi equipment so it is good to see mini systems like this, even if just as an introduction to the world of Hi-Fi..I am sure build quality is not high on the list.

There's not many out there that don't have weak CD trays are there and you're right Denon a great make, mind you I'm not sure about build quality in todays market I'm still using my old R-42XL Kenwood amp with an superscoope pac750 and even the cover plate on that CD tray fell off but as said doesn't matter what you run if you havn't got the punch in your speakers you can't appreciate the quality

Today with how many gadgets we have, the majority of kids today do not see music in the same way as kids of the 70s and 80s as a main entertainment resource.
I always strived to want a better music system, sadly I feel Hi-Fi is dying. As long as kids have a games console, Spotify at 160kbps and a television/soundbar for home and their mobile phone that's as Hi-Fidelity as they wish to go.
There again, would anyone really want to listen to dubstep in 24 Bit FLAC, hardly showcases subtlety and dynamics.

Got a DM39 from Sevenoaks about a year ago for £169, assuming this is much the same, it's an absolutely fantastic little system. I paired it up with some old Celestion UL6 speakers from the 70s and it sounds fantastic. DAB works well, even with the crappy aerial provided.

I certainly don't...I remember surround sound extension speakers to midi systems, but most certainly no 5.1 systems...pro logic at best. Cannot recall anything being 5.1 until late 90s when you started to see AC3 bitstream connections.

I remember them selling 5.1 midi systems back in the 80s - the heydays of mini/ midi systems. The closest thing I think you'll get to it now are the "home cinema in a box" type systems made by Sony, Panasonic etc.

Agreed. RS sometimes have better deals packaged with speakers but if it's just the main unit needed it's a good deal. Only drawback I can see is possibly a weak cd tray assembly but judging by the usual comments on here cds belong in the graveyard along with watching a film in the cinema in 2D instead of at home on blu-ray.
