The idea is to put the waste IN the bin, not ON it. If you do this there's no more need to wash your hands after touching the bin lid than after touching anything else in the kitchen.

The bin size is fine if you empty it regularly........Personally I don't want stinking rubbish left in my kitchen for days on end.
