Becareful with this card, my son wasn't old enough for a current account and a debit card, so we got him one of these for pocket money, and we had constant problems with the company losing transactions and it took 3 months per transaction to investigate and another 30 days to get a refund!! if you doubt me, check their forums out, hundreds of complaints and there websites feel like someone stopped making them 80% through.
thankfully he is now old enough but id never use Pockit again.. terrible customer support.
Id recommend a Revolut card 100% over this.

You can use this in shops and online where places don't accept PayPal.
I have one, got it after someone bought a £600 watch on my card. I suspect my details got stolen from one of those cheap online stores that sell steam keys.
I always use this now when buying something online from a company that I'm not 100% sure about in terms of online security.

I have one and one each for my teen children, all on same account. Has proved very useful as a reserve fund when they have been abroad or have lost wallets. Good website, easy to manage.

Looks like a great idea for kids spending money. Anyone know if it has contactless?

I have one and it 's not contactless. It's over a year old though so maybe newer ones are ?
It's a very useful card for purchases online (foreign sites, companies you've never heard of etc.) when you are a bit suspect of using your main credit card. You can just load this card up online (instant transfer from a debit card), with just enough ££'s for your purchase, and then relax about giving all your credit card details out.
The online statements are very good too, they show all recent pending transactions within a few minutes.

Apart from the free £5.00 I can't see this being better than the Revolut Card, especially since Revolut has no fees for purchases or ATM withdrawals abroad.

Is that just for the first year ? - it looks like they're starting to charge now over £500. A few complaints about using this card abroad too (halfway down this link) :-
100% agree , Revolt is the best card so far with no fess even for ATM

does it have the same protections as a normal credit card when you buy items?

Short version: no, it won't. With this card you're spending your own money. The credit card protections only arise from the fact that you are spending someone else's.
